2005 Cosmic Prem

Afternoon all,

Back when I was 8 years old, the EP3 was first released, and I fell in love after going out in my Dad's friends demo. It's been 22 years, but I've finally bitten the bullet and got one!

I did a deal with a friend of mine for my 09 plate Cooper S and walked away the proud owner of this (rough round the edges) Cosmic grey Premier Edition.

First plans are to get rid of that back bumper, replace the manifold gasket, and do the rear brakes. It'll get a service after that and then I can start to tidy it up. The outer lips of the rear arches need tidying up, but the boot floor and sills are spotless. A good friend of mine is buying the Tegiwa carbon bonnet for his 30th anniversary, he's already got the wings and the bonnet is the missing piece to his puzzle.

My son loves it, but the missus is going to take some convincing I think haha!

I need to give it a good clean and get some better photos ASAP

May, or may not have forgot I’d started a thread on here it was only when I was researching something that I came on the site and thought ‘hang on a minute…’

Well, it’s been just over a year.. and what a year it’s been! I absolutely love the car still (even with its flaws)

This is how it currently sits

The carbon bonnet is now in the hands of another friend who’s built a K swapped Vivid Blue EP2 (Vivid Performance in South Wales ), the bumper with the holes in went in the skip

I managed to get a Tegiwa strut brace for 30 quid! And my favourite mod, my Teg intake was £200 with all the bits.

Next on the agenda is replace all the callipers, give it another service and just try and work my way through all the jobs I can do whilst still using it as my daily

That's an interesting lip on the front bumper, looks like a folded forward weather strip, any more info on it ??

Well, it’s been 4 months and the cars been off the road for 3 of them..

It’s MOT expired in October and I knew it was going to need some bits. So I made the ‘wise’ decision to sort it myself.

2 tyres, 4 new calipers, a set of brake pads, front wiring loom repair, 2 new rear brake hoses and rear brake pipes, and almost £800 quid later and it’s pretty much ready (thank God I work from home!)

It might still fail yet, but if it does and my insurance company find my thread, the car spontaneously combusted.. honest..

Hope it passes, chap! lovely motor! needs to be on the road!

Not the update I was ever thinking I’d be posting..

Car is no longer. The rust underneath was monumental, rear part of the sills and arches and the floor where the tank mounts is non existent.

It’s more upsetting than it should be because I got the car from someone who undersealed a couple of months before I got it and I was told it was ‘sound’

Cars been broken for parts, I’ve still got the running gear left and a couple of other bits if anyone needs anything

It’s been a blast, but it’s the end of the road

A sorry sight to see! No chance of that all being cut out and replaced with fresh metal?

Edit - just seen you’ve only a few bits left from breaking it :(

:(

When I had mine the back of sills was pretty rusty. I had it all cut out and replaced, but it was limited to the back of the sills. The floor was all solid. The guy who replaced and welded in all the new metal was shocked about how thin that metal is back there.

Facelifts also have zero corrosion protection. Just bare metal covered with arch liner inserts, which accelerates the issue.
