Hi lads just took my oil cap of while engine was running and noticed some blow by?car only has 55.000 miles and run perfectly is it anything to worry about or do k20 engines generally have have this? Thanks

Why are you taking your oil cap off while the engine is still running? Do you like trouble?

No dont like trouble it was actually a friend of mine that is a mechanic only for a few seconds! i dont make a habit of it!

yeah when i took the oil cap off i could feel it on my hand it was more than a light tingle though! car is running great is it common in k 20 engines?

i think to a cirtain extent every engine puts out some blow from the amount of moving parts under the rocker cover and oil ways. just if it sounds real loud like raspy and blue smoke is steaming out of the filler cap then there's a problem. i get a low note sort of like a didgaredoo, the air is at a fast pulse like blowing a rasberry. either your cars fine or both of ours are knackers, lol.

yeah mine has exactly the same mileage 55k too so its say it is fine! my car is flying and pulling great my last car did it too so don't think it is anything to worry about! Would just love to hear off the other lads do they have it and is it common for the K20?

seeing yours is exactly the same as mine. quiz time. i get a bit of creaking in my dash and from around the window do you? if i sit in neutral on tick over with foot off clutch i can hear my gearbox rotating and sounds a bit rough whats yours like? does your engine sound i little bit rough in the morning not rough more like loosened up but then quietens down when up to temp?
thanks fella.

Yeah i have got the same noise as you and fro around the window too this is really weird!:] yeah my engine does quite down when warmed up but that is the same with most cars including my last car. I have the same issue with the gearbox and have had all replaced under warranty yet noise still exists! its not too bad though! its like were driving the same car ha!

No other lads on the forum have replied to this!

The only time I ever take teh oil cap off the rocker cover is to top up with oil, and when I do that the engine has been standing for 10 minutes at least. Not running.

There is no need to remove the cap while the engine is running, it just gives a extra chance for crap to get into the head.

maybe were the same person but with two minds and im actually replying to threads that i have written.

lol only joking, but seriously that would be messed up.

its good that both our motors are in identical condition. means were both looking after them.
better than i look after myself anyways. lol.

Oil cap only needs to come off when oil is going in to the rocker, for topping up or filling up purposes. There is no other reason why it should be taken off? :?

are you not inquisitive to what happens under that filler cap whilst the engine is running. it does no damage and just as much crap can get in the head with out running. its a hole.
