EP3 - Bogging down issue on track

I am fairly new to this car (and forum) which is a track focused ep3 that I purchased, I developed an issue whilst on track this week and wanted some advice.

Whilst at Brands I noticed that as the day went on the car was bogging down after exiting Druids hairpin, the car would momentarily lose power one, two or three times. It then happened on other parts of the track but Druids was the worst and the most consistent.

It had been down as low as 1/4 tank just before lunch, we decided to fill it to the brim and try again, but with no joy.

I had a go pro recording at the time and have time stamped the events

3:18, 4:20, 5:28, 6:53 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSjSqGYAzhs&li...

Last run with a full tank: time = 1:58 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMwwUn8LLGk&li...

Relevant info:
track temperature ~ 28 degrees
2003 ep3
Hondata Kpro - I am trying to connect to it to see if it has any codes stored. According to hondata iPhone app it has no codes but I am still trying via a windows laptop to connect.
Uprated air intake - cone variety located towards the back of the engine bay (this is on the list to change)
Uprated radiator (seems to work well according to the dash thermostat)

I would appreciate some ideas as too where to look as I have another track day booked for the end of this month. My own thoughts were to check and possibly change the fuel filter and pump, earth strap from the fuel rail. I have checked for codes and nothing is displayed.

ps go easy on the comments re my driving skills ;-)

Thanks for the response.

It is the original oil sump, not sure if it has had baffles added as I have never had it off of the car.

If I am honest it felt more like fuel starvation although I am not sure what oil starvation would feel / sound like.

Thanks Chris, I had not considered that.

I will try and get hold of the guy that converted if for track use and ask if he baffled the sump. If not that is a job for the winter.

If it isn't then you can help matters by overfilling by a couple of mm on the dipstick.

Funny you should say that, I was speaking to a race prepped ep3 owner that was also on track and his mechanic / Dad said they all overfill the oil in them!

Tom of TGM (Honda race specialist in Fleet) told me you don't need a baffled sump on clockwise circuits (which most are in the UK) just add and extra 1/2 litre of oil, It has worked for me on my EP3 for 6 years and many track-days.

what exactly do you mean "bogging down" ? not revving, no VTEC or ?

But if the fuels lower than a 1/4 it will suffer from fuel starvation....

1/2 litre extra of oil it is then and it is great to hear that you have not had any issues with that approach as you are always told overfilling is a bad thing.

On the bogging down front I have my foot down coming out of druids and you get a hesitation, if you watch this video at 5:28 you will see it hesitating:

I pulled the cover off of the fuel tank area yesterday and I think it is fair to say it has not been touched in a long time, the car has 150K on the clock:

I was going to order up a new filter today, not sure if I should swap the pump at the same time? If so original or uprated?

On the fuel front have you modified the standard setup for track and have you ever suffered with fuel starvation?

Marc

Standard pump is fine for NA power, there's no harm in refreshing it as these cars are getting on a bit.
