EP3 Premier Edition Nighthawk Black 2005

Today I changed my rear sub frame bar behind the engine. Easy enough job to do and man it was rusty. Check out the pics, it must of been close to snapping on the welds. Good job ticked off my list to get done. Next up I will be installing a gearbox mount insert. Whilst under the car today inspected all the engine mounts and luckily there all looking good accept the gearbox mount is starting to perish a little, hence installing the insert to help.

Nice, mine is quite rusty - will have to get a new one at some point!
 
It’s been a while since an update so thought I would list a few things I’ve been doing whilst having the extra time recently.
Firstly I’ve completed a full service last month using millers 5w40 oil, new genuine Honda oil filter, wurth engine flush and I also treated my self to a new ITG filter as mines been installed 5 years and was starting to get ropey. Whilst servicing I also installed the gearbox poly flex insert and new acuity shifter bushes which has tightened up the shifting nicely. The past two weeks I’ve been working on the dreaded rust. Below is my method and products used and some pics of my progress.

I Fully cleaned and degreased the area 1st, then dried it with a hair dryer, then removed as much rust as possible with a wire wheel on a drill / wire brushes, I then applied Bilt hamber hydrate 80 rust converter to pitted areas where rust was bad, then primed over rusted ares with Bilt hamber electrox zinc primer, then painted all areas including non rusted areas with Bilt hamber epoxy mastic, I then filled / injected all chassis rails and sills / floor pan with Bilt hamber s50 wax and finally coated all underbody with Bilt hamber ub wax. You can see why this process has taken two weeks as you have to wait a day in between coats ect, hopefully this will keep the rust at bay? In regards to the arch liners I had a rust hole behind these on both sides so I replaced with fresh steel after cutting out the rot, I used 2mm thick steel and stuck in place using jb weld, please see pics below, sorry for the large pictures but photo bucket wouldn’t let me save the the pictures smaller??





















I’m now in the process of just starting to refurb my wheels, Just sanding them down today and hopefully getting some primer on tomorrow, I’m going for a Little change from silver to graphite grey. Pics to follow.

Don't tell me you undersealed all of it while it was on axle stands ???
 
Cheers mate, yes I undersealed the whole underbody while on axle stands :lol:
I took out front and rear arch liners too, removed side skirts ect and it’s taken nearly two weeks to complete but worth the effort.
I’m on refurbishing my wheels now, pictures will follow, cheers

I still remember when you shot past me on the Lincoln Bypass a few years ago when I was in my silver FN2.
Does your car still sound ridiculously good ? :D
 
It was hard work laid underneath it and face was nearly touching the chassis :lol:

Yes I do remember when we was doing fly pasts each other on the bypass, when you had your FN2, Great fun, it still has the same skunk 2 exhaust and sounding loud but tasteful.

I’ve sanded and stripped the calipers this week and applied fresh red Caliper paint. I also took my time refurbished my alloys myself. I fully sanded them down from 120 grit down 1000 grit and painted them with cans in graphite grey. They’ve come come way better than I thought considering I did them in the shed at home. It took a while but worth the effort.
