Fault list after first mechanical check-up.

  • Both front brake calipers play in sliders

  • o/s/f Tyre inner edge

  • No catalitic converter

  • n/s/f Track rod play+gaiter split

  • o/s/f '' '' '' '' ''

  • Rear engine mount

  • o/s/f Brake light

  • o/s/f side light

Newbie to the car scene, but I can replace those lights but what do you think about the rest?
The front brake pads 'shreek' when you slow down gradually, therefore, I thought they need replacing but the guy said it's the calipers. Shed some light on the 'caliper play in sliders'?

All the best folks,

Yoshi

No idea about the calipers sliders.

I found this pic, so can only assume that play means on these pins.

You knew it didn't have a cat.

Hello,

My name is yoshinoya ;)

Just laid hands on the first Type-R and it's a EP3.

Second-hand, 2002, and with a few additions.. The ones I'm aware of are:

D-racing manifold
Buddy Club exhaust centre, de-cat and back box
Cold air intake
BC-racing coilovers
Carbon fibre bonnet
etc etc

Had the car for 2 weeks now and still need to go for mechanical inspection.

Regards,

Yoshi

Rear inner tyre wear is a common problem on the EP3 (if thats what you have). Can be solved by having the FRSU done.

EDIT: just re-read and saw it was the front, probably just need to get the tracking done by a local garage.

Yeah, if that's the case with the pins then do the calipers need replacing?

I knew there was a de-cat in there but when the mechanics said it didn't have a catalytic converter, does that mean he wasn't familiar with this kind of set-up? or hinting at an MOT failure?

1. if there is play in the sliders i would imagine this can be taken away with new pins. i cant think that you would need new calipers.

2. a decat exhaust system is short for saying the catalytic converter has been removed... and yes this would result in an MOT failure on emmisions as the catlytic converter reduces the toxicity in the emissions.

3. there is lots of information on the forum about a FRSU, all details about what you will need and where to get it done. just do a search :)
