Honda EP3 Supercharger Kit

Hi,

Been thinking about supercharging my ep3 for a little while now. Just wanted to get some advice.

Looking at the Rotrex Supercharger Kit. In terms of mods would I need to look into changing internals or can I make safe numbers on stock internals? Is there any other things I need to take into consideration such as upgrading clutch etc.

Thanks

Hi dips89,

I supercharged my track EP3 with just the Rotrex Sport kit about two years ago and highly recommend such a conversion. The car makes about 300 hp on stock internals and absolutely flies feeling more than adequate.

The K20 is more than strong enough for the Rotrex Supercharger on stock internals and depending upon which Rotrex kit you go for, bigger intercoolers and so on + uprated hardware is included with the kits. Check out the TTS website and read over the specs of each kit - I can’t remember the spec lists off the top of my head.

If you do just go for the cheapest sport kit, then I recommend you upgrade your OEM rad to a higher spec, install an oil cooler and a lower thermostat just to keep temperatures well-in check with running the greater power.

Also, make sure you get the car mapped and setup by a reputable tuner.

I’d also recommend you upgrade your clutch to be on the safe side, even though your torque figures don’t go through the roof with a supercharger compared to a turbo build.

Hope this helps a little bud.

All the best, Lew

Hi Lewr1407,

Thanks for the information mate appreciate the help. Car is hitting 94k mark, does it seem worthwhile to get it supercharged on that mileage?

Yes, absolutely. I had mine supercharged at around that mileage and I regularly track too - no problems since. You just have to remember that if you do go down the supercharger route, you have to take greater care of the engine as a whole to be on top of things - reducing your oil change intervals, replacing filters more regularly etc etc...but to be honest, it’s nothing overkill or too costly. You’re placing more stress on everything, but it’s nothing that the car can’t handle, as long as you fastidiously setup correctly and continue to maintain.
I think a model of one of the Ariel Atoms run a supercharged K20 as stock.

If you’re not too sure about the engine health before doing so, have a compression test carried out and also replace your timing chain and tensioner for peace of mind, if not already done.
You could also consider an oil sample analysis, which will again show any wear in the engine and provide you with a good appreciation of engine health - the Millers oil analysis is quite good for this.

I can only talk of my experience thus far, but there will be lots of other members who have run more power with no problems, engine wise. If you’re still unsure perhaps speak to a specialist to get a better mechanical view?

K20’s are bulletproof as long as you treat them as such! Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice. ECU wise I have a K100 would this be ok or would I need to move onto the Kpro?

Thanks mate. Going to bug you again, when getting the compression test done do you know what psi I should be getting?

Hi dips, I’m really not too sure on this, but I recall something like 160 across all cylinders, I could be completely wrong. Hopefully someone can input on this?

No worries mate. Also clutch wise, what would be a good stage 3 one to get. You got any recommendations?

Hi dips,

I still run the OEM clutch on mine, but I only use the car for track. Unsure on clutches, depends what power you’re going to be running. I’m sure stage 1 or 2 would be fine.
