Quite a few things gone wrong, please help..

Now these issues have been coming and going for about 6 weeks, but now seem to be happening almsot every time I get behind the wheel and it's starting to worry me.
First it started with a knocking sound coming from both front suspensions, but more noticeable from the passenger side, when I either went over large speed bumps or when at full lock in either direction at low speeds. This has now increased in volume on the passenger side, along with a massive traction issue on the passenger front wheel. Basically when I accelerate hard from about 5k rpm onwards, no matter what the road surface, the left side front will spin and cause the car to shudder, but the right hand side won't, so it's not like when on a greasy road the whole car just wheel spins, it's always just the one side. I also got what I think was a burning clutch smell the last time I drove it while trying to climb a steep hill.

Now, while looking through the forum, it sounds like a steering rack issue in regards to the knocking sound, but talking to my uncle who builds kit cars for hill climbing, he seems to think that I've blown my passenger side damper. :? Do you guys think it may be both problems hitting me at once? And would these issues cause any clutch problems?

Please help, I'm pretty lost with all this and am quite down at the potential bill to get this rectified :( Especially since I've got road tax and MOT coming up and have been saving for a FRSU and other bits to be fitted by Artech..

Regrds in advance,
Karl

Sounds like a damper problem, that would cause wheel hop when accelerating as for the passenger side wheel always spining that sounds about normal. I think it has something to do with the shorter drive shaft and the gearbox being on the left side, plus the roads are not brilliant this time of year.

If you are worried get it to a garage asap. They will be able to diagnose the problem for you.

I am worried but was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction before I got raped by the local Honda garage to diagnose the problem, as I'd rather have a rough idea of what I'm expecting to pay etc as don't trust the one nearest me not to rip me off...

D'oh! Yet another option that has been mentioned.. Well, I've contacted Artech for a quote on fitting some bits and may just get those guys to have a look at it all while they have it....

Im pretty sure that mine is doing something simular with the knocking sound but not as bad and i was sure that it was bushes on the suspension , simply because mine only just had an mot and the guy said that its not an advisory but with the type r's harsh ride its best to get them changed

Strange you should mention that mate as my Uncle came down and had a drive of it and doesn't think it's the dampers, just the bushes and/or the track lever arm assembly :? I've got an idea what that is but looks like I'll need to get it to a garage, oh well..

What ever you do, do not go to Brighton Honda (Holmbush Roundabout) garage. I went there in October 2008 for a 75k service and they ended up writing off my engine. Car went in working perfectly, car came out with Big End Bearings shot, crank shaft knackered, etc. They still deny it, and now in a legal battle against them. The rip off merchant mother hubbard's.

Hope you get it sorted.

Just so you know there is a Honda Specialist garage in Rustington (West Sussex). Been in a few times for a chat with them, and I'm going to start taking my car there next service.

Well it's now booked in at Artech/Eurospec for the 1st Feb for getting this checked, a service and MOT, fitting a few braces etc and a FRSU so hopefully everything will be sorted after they've had a look at it all :)

Cool!

Take loads of pics

Out of interest, and slighty concern, Nymphy - do you think it could be related to the Teins (As I've read as many great reports about them, as I have about them making nosies)?

Irrespective, I hope you get the issue rectified properly and cost effectively too.

Oh don't worry James, I intend to use at least half of a full charge taking pictures once it's all done :D

And TypeRiter, I do have a feeling that the Tein's could have caused an already existing issue to deteriate faster just due to the extra strain on the bushes etc being lowered, but I can't say for sure as don't 100% know what's up and how it could have potentially been caused. I wouldn't expect Tein's to be any different than other springs, if there is an underlining problem I'd expect ay lowering spring to bring it to the surface...

bounce the corner of the car up and down which you think it is and then do the same with one that isnt doing it if its the damper, the difference between the knackered and the good one will be really noticeable

Yeh I gave that a go Solly and there doesn't seem to be a noticeable difference between the two, although the left is a tad softer than the right, so I am leaning towards thinking it's the bushes, but I'm sure Artech will suss it out for me :)
