FD2 FD2 Service in South East

Messages

So I'm about 1,500 miles (roughly 5 weeks) away from needing to service the FD2 for the first time.

Now my DC5 I used to service myself (with a very competent mechanic friend) but because the FD is worth so much more, I want to maintain value as much as possible by getting it serviced at 'reputable' establishments who can at least stamp the book/provide paperwork etc and keep the current FSH going.

The car was imported from new by Litchfield, and has had full, regular Honda service history since.

I'm loath to just chuck it at my local Honda dealer as, with the best will in the world they're just robots.

I live in West Kent, and I'm wondering if there are any decent garages near me that people have used that I can take my car to?

I've been to Eurospec in Guildford before, but that's too far for a service.

These guys are near to me. Anyone used them before?

I'd rather take it to a 'specialist' than Honda, but if people have any comments and suggestions I welcome your feedback.

Thanks for your time.

maybe TDI South I think it is in Thurrock? Not used them myself though as I go to TGM in Fleet.

They are very reasonable, and they are very good.
I'm lucky enough to live just round the corner, but I know they will drop you off in town for a couple of hours if you don't want to sit around.
If I owned an FD2 I would be making the extra effort.

It is quite a trek, but for a once a year service, I would make the trip.

I'll be down at TGM getting my Silver FD2 serviced this Saturday if any of you want to come and have a mooch/say hello/introduce yourselves feel free! (Thanks for the recommendations, I mentioned you by name Dotty as the reference and the woman on the phone laughed).

I'm both excited and dreading it. I just know I'm going to be tempted to upgrade something if they've got stuff on the shelf for it down there...

I'll be the half asleep zombie wandering about with nothing to do!

Might see you there if I don't get too ****ed tonight. Got a blow on the exhaust

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Nice to meet C4Doc down there.

Overall very happy with the service offered, although they don't appear to have re-fitted my scuttle panel correctly and I now have a low-rev rattle when pulling away/under strain. I assume this is to do with the intake cover as I had a similar issue with my DC5.

To be honest though not fitting the scuttle properly has annoyed me a bit.

To be clear, I'm almost certain the rattle is not the scuttle panel but never say never!

No, completely standard currently.

It went in for a full service with no mods. With the belt, came to about £540

Completely unrelated, but annoyingly nonetheless is the fact Tom noticed the Alternator Belt was worn, so he replaced it. Only for it to completely shred itself a week later when the Bottom Crank Shaft Pulley decided it didn't like working properly. Tom kindly sent me a second hand one to get my car back on the road whilst the new part comes from the Land of the Rising Sun.

And to top it off, the hot weather that we had last week made me turn the air con on properly for the first time since owning the car.... And the condenser is knakered. So it needs a further £441 spent putting that right now too!

All in all, it's not been a good few weeks.

Have you spoken to Tom about the rattle?

Doesn't seem like you've had much luck recently. For what it's worth, you should have the aircon on all year round, to avoid the seals knackering and bacteria buildup in the system.

I mentioned it to him but we were more concerned about getting the pulley sorted.

He's been out/racing I believe the last few days and I've been in Germany watching the Berg Cup for a stag do so not had proper time. I'm away this weekend too but come next week I'll be giving him another call.

It's just a hassle to have to drive that far again so soon if he wants to see it, but if he will fix it for free I can't be too choosy!

Thanks for the tip on the air con. Doesn't it sap power from the engine a little?

Tom will see you right.

The difference in fuel economy and power is negligible. When under constant abuse the car will disable aircon anyway.

Been in touch with Tom. He's going to have a look at the car when I'm next around.

Air con is being fixed Thursday.

Fingers, toes, everything, crossed. No more for now... Please!!!
