FK8 General FK8 (10th Gen) CTR Release chat

Being nosey. Are you financing the car or outright payment ? Just wondering what honda are offering in the way of financing one (if you are)

Yep Honda PCP finance. £10K down, £319 a month. Just need to cut down on the takeaways now....oh and electricity....gas.....no more Sky....in fact the missus has probably got to go as well...

Visited a dealer today for a drive and I was very impressed .. however left myself scratching my head whether it's worth the change over or not now I've sat down and had a think, I was all set for a deal but went away to consider, and I'm glad I did as my drive home proved how good the fk2 is

Talked numbers with the dealer and to be fair the px deal is not far off what I was expecting.. that being said I would be miffed if I had bought the fk2 new 18 months ago .. (not far off a £10k loss) which of course would be the same this time 18 months down the line if you were to pull the trigger on a new 8.

One thing that is confirmed is that it is certainly a more comfortable place to be in the 8 , I had to double check I was in +R mode as it's nothing like the +R we are used to as FK2 owners it is definitely more placid in the 8 and I think the sport mode is pointless. It either needs comfort or +R. If I went for an 8 it'd be in +R for the majority of the time.

The seating position for me is much better in the FK8 that's for sure.

One thing that I prefer in the 2 is the dash layout , it's a lot "busier" in the 8 and I don't know what they were thinking when they removed the oil temp gauge for the 8, I suppose you'd get used to it after some time behind the wheel.

Rev matching is a nice addition, and the way it puts the power down is really nice, not as erratic and to me doesn't feel as urgent as the fk2 and you're definitely shifting gears more in the 8 perhaps because mine has intake / exhaust and intercooler it feels quicker and so it should . Who knows.

To summarise I'm in a bit of an awkward position as to where to go from here .. there are pros and cons to both cars and I've no idea what to do

I also popped by another dealer who had the sonic grey in and I've written that colour off.

Stick to the FK2 Stu mate.
See what happens with the FK8 in 12 to 18 months and wait for the special edition's.

I do like it in polished metal but as my fk2 is that colour I thought I would try something different. So blue it is but still haven't seen one in the flesh as no dealer within 60m radius has one. Hope I've made the right decision on the colour, to late now finance all sorted.
It should be with the dealer within the next couple of weeks ready for the 1st

I don't know how they've done it but it looks even more mental than the FK2 when side by side.

Can't imagine what the next one will look like?!

Hello all,

Just about to order a new FK8 which will be used as a daily / track car. Loved the car when I test drove it, and with a few mods - intake / exhaust, white wheels from Honda Japan I think it will be a monster.

Key questions I have that would be great if anyone could help with

1. Can you disable the ESP/VSC completely - I hate that nannying residual ESP/VSC that sometimes stays on in the background on new cars. I'm not talking about just pressing the button either - I want it to be totally off!

2. How did people find the brakes on the previous R ? Okay for track work with new pads/lines?

3. Honda are saying £15k GFV after 3 years - does that seem realistic?

4. I had a search - but has anyone released a map that allows pop/bang exhaust tune? only think I would like on the Fk9

Many thanks for your help and look forward to joining the fold

Mike

Not many parts to buy yet for them Dotty, will give you chance to save up haha.

Will the wheels you got for fk2 fit?

Test drive booked for the 8th Sept for when I'm back off holiday. The family really liked it yesterday so I've pretty much been given the go ahead, assuming I enjoy the test drive.

Mugen will need to be sold before I put any money down, but then I'm in for it. Never owned a new car, so it'll be a novel experience, and not thinking about depreciation!

Someone has to.

And therein lies the rub. I saw a 66 plate FK2 Type R while on a test drive today - 1 year later it is now 26,999
Will the new one depreciate like that!

I've looked today at a FK8 in red, black and sonic (which is not as bad a some make out!) at 3 different places. Need to see the other colours!
Slight lag before the turbo kicks in, I though VTEC would bridge the lag?
Coming from a lowered Integra, even +R mode felt tame...

Also looked at a dealers pre orders numbers and the GT spec most popular colours so far are Red (easy I guess as it's no extra cost) at 50, then Black @ 47, then Blue @35, Sonic 29, Polished @ 28, White last surprisingly at 27.

Is it worth paying all in one go, PCP @ 5.9% or HP at 7.9%? What are the best options?

You cannot turn the auto stop off on the FK2, not sure about the FK8. It only ever does it in the right conditions and often doesn't.

I cooked my brakes after a few laps of Silverstone and am booked in for braided lines, upgraded fluid and better pads. The Callipers have plenty of stopping power.

Don't know about residual value after 3 years. Impossible to say.

Speak to Phil Crafford at Dream Automotive for the pops and bangs remap. Although be aware you can kiss goodbye to your warranty. I have achieved pops and bangs with an Eventuri and Milltek Cat back. Again too early to know what options will be available for the FK8
