Oil suggestions for K24/20 Frank build

Hi Guys,

recently completed my Frank build and it's time to choose oil type!

The cars been run in, done 1,500 miles and I'm looking for some expert opinions - I currently have what the builder, a well known Glasgow based non-sponsor put in it (10w/40 fully syntetic) and was looking for some input on a good grade oil.

To give a bit of insight into the build I'm running a K24 bottom end rebored + 0.5mm with forged internals, lightened reground and balanced crank, Crower rods and Mahle custom deep pocket pistons, FD2 oil pump, rebuilt flowed K20 head with new valvetrain and the usual decat 4-2-1 mani, exhaust, intake etc.

Any suggestions on oil manufacturer/supplier etc much appreciated!

Cheers

Both my EP3's (standard K20's) are run on Millers nanodrive 5w30 (EE Longlife) without issue and very little burns off either car.

I've just changed my oil in my ep3 to millers nanodrive NT+ 5w-40 and it feels smooth and maybe a placebo but I think it feels faster?

Mine always feels better after an oil change. Probably a sign that it was ready for changing.

Yep, know what you mean. I'm being very ginger with this thing just now so far but it's stupidly quick.

Do you guys think the K24 will be OK with the 5w30? I was under the impression that the 10w40 would be better given the speed the internals will be moving at?

'Runs fine' - I presume you've taken oil samples and had them inspected? As that's a bold thing to say. I think the terminology you're looking for is 'didn't blow up'. :)

I know a few oil specialists, one who works for Castrol, his advice is to ignore all the nanodrive crap and use something that OEM manufacturers such as BMW use, like Castrol, Petronas, Mobil 1, Shell etc.

Tom at TGM told me that they were now using Petronas, so ordered a litre for top ups etc.
