EP3 Buying/financing your Type R

Bit of FK8 buying/price advice needed please - would you say that a 1 owner November registered 2019 FK8 in polished metal with 4000 miles and the 5 year service pack is about right at £28,500?

there is a 4K 69 plate PMM with 5 year service plan at Honda Wimbeldon for £28.2 on autotrader, but yeah sounds about right to me

(savage that the owner prob got 22K)

I would probably hold on a while longer and get a sub 30k “facelift” which won’t be too far away.

I honestly wouldn’t buy one yet. Stealers have been paying over the odds from sellers like myself and a few others on the forum. You need to wait for the overpriced stock to clear and a few ex demo facelifts to be for sale around the 30k mark. My former car is currently for sale at Chiswick Honda for less than I got from We buy any car. Wait until December that’s usually when stealers are trying to shift stock and I suspect this December will be extra tough for them.

Yes that's the one I might be taking leave of my senses for very shortly. I've been haggling for the past couple of hours on and off by phone and email, they've offered a part-ex of my black edition plus £6k to change. I think I just might.

Just be aware that the cars value is £24145 so you will lose nearly 5k the moment you pick it up. Prices are overinflated at the moment but once the current stock clears the prices will come down.

£24k on an 11 month old FK8? Where are you getting that from?

In your position I would probably try and sell the FK2 privately , I would be emailing the specialist traders and see what they offer , I would wait out for a nearly new facelift model.

It’s a buyers market at the moment. The few of us that sold our fk8’s to wbac and such had a bit of fortune , the cars we sold are still at dealerships unsold and at similar prices to what we sold them for - ergo very little profit for the dealers, so they may want to shift them before the end of Q4.

Personally for me I wouldn’t be looking at a late ‘pre facelift’ FK8 and would opt for a facelift which is the better car albeit marginally but better all the same.

Yeah I know what you mean, I have been offered around £20k for my car as a straight sale, they are offering me £22k for it. I thought it wasn't a bad deal with the service pack, 2 years of warranty left and only 4k miles. Thing is, if I wait until facelifts start dropping into the same price range, my car will be another year older with another year's worth of miles, stonechips, etc and I'll have had to pay for a service (no service pack on mine).

Don't know what to do now, I was kind a hoping for a few 'sounds good, go for it' but now I feel like I'm way overpaying!

Its a tough one, I don't think the facelift is that much of a better car on its own to warrant the wait, but I do think you should hold on for prices to fall and for dealers to try and hit their 4q 2020 numbers to get a better deal. What's a couple of months longer? (says the man who gets impatient at KFC)

I’ll be looking at pre-facelift models in the new year, hopefully, they should be a little bit cheaper then.

I’m sure someone posted a car wow quote for a new one the other day with around £3k off list ?

Yeah I'm not too fussed about the facelift, I don't want an alcantara wheel on a daily car, don't like the synthesized exhaust sound thingy and the extra cooling for brakes and grille will be lost on me as I'm not going to track it. Gearknob is cool.

Yes I'm very impatient too! I'm just conscious that it gets me in the region of what I paid for my car, with no hassle of trying to sell privately (relying on someone to come up with £22k outright and isn't bothered about having a warranty) for a year old car with 2 year warranty and service pack with sod all miles. I plan to keep it a while, so in that sense the depreciation won't bother me as much as if I was planning on chopping and changing. Oh what to do!

We buy any car. They are a very good indicator of what the car is really worth. Quite a few of us have sold our cars through them because they were being rather generous.

The facelift is an improvement though. The suspension has been tweaked , also the cooling Issues are now addressed , along with the gear throws being a bit shorter and all the other improvement tweaks they made aesthetically.

I’d get the facelift just to have buttons on the dreadful infotainment system

Why not go for a new car then ? For nearly £2k extra than the Wimbledon one you’d get a brand Spanker revised model. No brainer for me !

Aren't the new ones £35,995 now? So even with £3k off via carwow or similar that makes them in the region of £33k. My budget was only supposed to be £26k!

Maybe it's better to wait until after Christmas like I was planning to do. You know when one comes up that's perfect, everything seems to align and you get excited with heart over head. Must...stop..heart.

I think you’ll get a facelift one for near to the asking price of Wimbledon’s one in 2 months.

It’s whether you can wait that long (sell your fk2 in the mean time and run a snotter until then)
