Rattle noise guidance please

I feel sorry for you with the amount of people that said chain, chains only start to rattle when they stretch so much they start hitting the cover which you could easily tell by looking at the timing marks.

Who carried out the work and did you ask them to investigate the rattle or just replace the chain? Sounds like it's something on the aux belt or valve train.

He was sent a video and suggested a cold start rattle can only really be the chain/tensioner.
I took it in for the job, which wasn’t cheap but problem persists unfortunately.
I’ve told him it’s still making the noise now the weather has gone colder and he just said it needs looking at , that was the end of conversation. See I don’t want another huge bill on top of what it’s alrwad cost me...
I’m going to take another video now to compare with the old noise.

Give that bottom right pipe a hard squeeze whilst running, see if that changes (the one off the manifold)

Were the valve clearances done when the chain was replaced?
Last time oil and oil filter was changed?
To me sounds like oil starvation causing the valvetrain to be noisy or excessive valve clearance.

Thought I’d update for anybody interested... seems this rattle was different to the original.

It was traced to the bottom crank pulley, rattling on cold start.
The cause was worn belt! New ancillary belt cured it straight away.

I got my chain and tensioner replaced at TI Motorsport ( Tegiwa ) which included valve clearance for £340 all in. I’ve been there for work twice now, can’t fault them, great job done, professional and recommended to any one.

Hi mate I was wondering did this job include changing the guides as well or were those ok as my specialist has advised me to change them with chain and tensioner and then getting the valve clearances done for 440 all in.

Hi mate, no this did not include the guides as there was nothing wrong with them. In all fairness there was nothing wrong with my chain or tensioner, I just got it done for piece of mind as I am approaching 100k
Cheers

Thanks for getting back I do get a noise on start up it's not a loud noise but it does seem like a noise coming from the side of the cam top. The mechanic said it may be tensioner was wondering if you had anything like this similar before changing chain cheers.

Rattles from the cam top on startup have been VTC gear previously. There are a few threads on here.

Could still be the tensioner a low oil pressure at startup and subsequent chain slap however.

Both my cold start rattles sounded like it was from the cam top area. I found my second with a light spray of wd on the crank pulley during rattle, silenced it immediately. New aux belt been fine since!

Seems like I need to start thinking bout changing the chain and tensioner as the car is coming near 100k miles.
