FN2 Roof rust

Messages

Hi guys,

I bought an '07 FN2 in October, a week later I took a picture of the roof where it meets the windscreen, thinking the car may not have been affected (yet). See below.

Fast forward to now, through winter, this is what it looks like:

As you can see it appears to be starting to rust! :( looking at the first picture now it was worse than I thought.

The car has full Honda service history apart from the last service at a specialist. I believe as the car comes with a 12-year rust warranty I can try and get this fixed through Honda? What are my chances?

Cheers,
Chris

My mate at work had his done under warranty at Honda a couple of months ago.

His was done but somebody who had a white FN2 that put in a claim at the same time had his declined.

I was told that anyone who needs to make a warranty claim would stand more of a chance at the start of each month as Honda have a set amount each month for warranty work and good will gestures.

How true that is? Im not sure..

Haha, could be true! Gives me some time to prepare my ammunition.

From reading a few threads, it seems like my options are either call or take it to my local dealer, state that I know it's a common issue and see what they say. If they tell me to get lost, ring Honda UK and complain.

That's my plan next week! My local garage in Stockport apparently have never done a car from 07. We will see...

Did you have any Joy?

My warranty claim for this has been rejected today so the start of the month thing doesn't sound legit. I have a full service history but the last few aren't at Honda and they say they can't guarantee the corrosion checks were done. Bit of a cop out IMO but never mind, also I was told my 08 plate is 4 years out of corrosion warranty.

Not yet. Mentioned it to the dealer when I had it serviced, said he'd take pictures and send it to their body shop, then the body shop would ring me the following day. Didn't happen.

Rang the dealer the other day and got the usual "service line is busy, we'll call you back." Going to try again soon.

My car has always been serviced at this particular dealer, except for the one before last, but I don't think that'll matter.

If you don't have any luck at your local one, try another, email Honda, etc. People are still getting it done.

Just to add to this (oldish) thread, my warranty claim earlier this year was approved even though my car had only visited a Honda dealership once or twice under previous ownership. It's definitely worth trying other dealerships if you have more than one local to you.

Yep I should have updated this thread, my local dealership rejected the claim, however I contacted Honda UK and they approved it, car was then fixed under warranty

I had mine done at Crewe Honda. Made sure it was spotlessly clean and took every receipt from day one.
Full Honda service history apart from the last one, also original windscreen and roof paint.
Took about two weeks to get sorted then they had it for a week.
I had a Jizz for a week. Which was nice

Hi Chris. Did you get a result on your roof rust claim?

Mine looks exactly like yours and I had it rejected today with them saying its not the warranty roof rust and is rust caused by something else maybe stone chips. Looks nothing like stone chips.
