Is this gearbox oil ok for my ep3?

Honda's MTF-3 (standard transmission oil for the EP3) is a GL-4 specification oil with 75w-80 viscosity.

When we use a GL-5 product in a transmission that requires GL-4, we normally find 2 to 4 times as much copper in the used oil as we would with a GL-4 product Eventually the synchronizers wear to the point that they no longer make contact with the other half of the cone, bottoming out before stopping the opposing gear.

I'd say no :)

Just wondered why people say Honda MTF3 only..?! When I bought my EP3 I didn't know what gear oil it was running
so I changed it with Millers 75w80 TRX SYNTH GL5 that I had left over from my Clio 182 gear oil change.. To be sure I rang Millers technical support for advice about the GL4/GL5 debate and they assured me in modern gearbox's it doesn't make any difference to metal degradation etc etc and it used to be a worry many years ago but not in a modern EP3 box... As a precaution after reading about MTF3 I went and swapped it out again, but for the 6 months the Millers oil was in there the box was super smooth both when warmed up and cold... As far as I know the box has done the full 116k the car has done as well...

Because usually when people have gearbox issues they're not running MTF and putting it in cures said issue.

Ah right that's fair enough Chris... I feel more at ease now I've used MTF3 in mine I must admit... I'm only 11 months into owning my EP3 so got plenty to learn about these cars...
