Ricki’s Daily FN2 Type R nighthawk Black

After owning my daily vw polo 1.2 petrol 2008 for nearly 7 years I wanted a change, plus it’s had a hard life as twice a week I take my ep3 to work and obviously the two cars are worlds apart. So decided to go for a FN2 Type r as my new daily. After looking at a fair few that were covered in scratches , door dents and paint problems I thought I was never going to find a decent example within my budget. Then this one popped up on the net and after viewing and test driving it, this was definitely the right one. It’s standard apart from a few bits of lowered on eibach springs, extra side skirts, a front lip, wind deflectors and painted black alloys, so it’s quite a stealthy look which is what drew me to it. After a week and a half , Overall I am very happy with way it drives and preforms, future plans I would like to get a mugen rear spoiler, other then that probably a Tegiwa cat back exhaust.

Cheers

I bought it secondhand, it was a cheap one that looked good from a distance. Fit was OK, not perfect. It's quite an easy swap over.

I definitely will be going down the route of mugen replica. 1st off I’m going to give it a full service including, new 5w-40 fully synthetic oil, Honda oil filter, pollen filter, NGK spark plugs, transmission fluid change and K&N panel filter. I think I will get my dremmel out this weekend and do the air box mod too :)

Full service complete this weekend and the air box mod done too, car feels much better through the gears after transmission fluid change. The FN2 is much harder / time consuming to work on then my EP3, there’s so many extra covers and shields to remove, got there in the end ***.

I also changed the the head light bulbs to Phillips extreme vision and changed all other small bulbs to led’s

It’s been a while since an update, had my FN2 over a year now and put about 7k on it. It’s been a good daily car so far. I just gave her a full service using new Honda oil filter, millers nanodrive 5w-40 cleaned K&N filter ect. MOT was in April and passed after I put a new front brake calliper on. There was a couple of advisories so I just purchased and installed the following:
2 x new Sachs front shock absorbers ( they were totally knackered )
2 x new Meyle drop links
2 x SNR top mounts
2 x new Pagid front discs
1 x set of new front PBS Brake pads
New motul rbf 600 fluid

After changing all this it does feel like a new car, it actually stops good now ;) also fitting new shocks has stopped the bouncing on the front end. I’ve just ordered a new pcv valve, probably looking at two new front tyres soon, thinking for going for Bridgestones again or Michelin PS4

I plan on a full polish and wax in the next few weeks, I will update with pics then. Cheers

It’s been a while since an update! I’ve been busy with work and my spare time I’ve concentrated on my EP3. Anyway, my FN2 has been a great daily car. I recently changed the front pads for genuine Honda and rebuilt the front calipers. I just bought a bargain HKS intake and fitted this today.

It sounds epic especially when vtec kicks in. It definitely makes the throttle more responsive and smoother too.
A big shout out to loxy’s fitting guide, cheers
A great modification for the FN2, I’m well chuffed.

I wanted a little bit more sound from the exhaust without going over the top, so yesterday fitted the M2 rear muffler to the standard OEM mid pipe. It sounds great and a great fit too. I’m very impressed with the sound and the quality, there’s no drone and it’s just enough to give it the sporty deeper tone I was after. Thumbs up for the m2 exhaust and I recommend it to other FN2 owners.

Hi,

Car looks amazing and have a soft spot for a NHB, was just looking at the ramps you use for jacking the car up.

How much clearance would you say you get with them?

Hi mate, thank you for the kind feedback, the ramps are great especially for exhaust works. They give about 25cm extra height. I find you get more clearance than jacking up on axle stands.

Yeah really looks like you do get a lot more clearance.
Did you do your own exhaust change by any chance?

Yes I did the exhaust change myself, it was pretty straight forward, just make sure you soak the bolts and nuts in wd40 a couple of hours before undoing them. It took longer to get the old one off then fitting the new m2.
