N77's ex now being sorted by Simon & Jamie

As above Carl. Get yourself sorted first, the car will still be there. ;)

New part arrived

Have been waiting ages for these to come back in stock with SW Motorsports.

Basically it’s 1 piece and made of Carbon so can be custom to what you want to put in it.

I will need to do the circle around the gear selector and then some holes for my gauges, but that’s it at the moment.

I didn’t know wether to try putting the vents back on and fan controls or not....

Careful putting holes in the carbon. You need carbide grit hole saws and files. The key to not getting a horrible breakout is to cut into a sacrificial material. I clamped on 4mm plywood front and back. The front one was a template, back was blank to cut into on breakthrough. Did the trick. Wear a mask, carbon dust is lethal.

What you going to do about the cage mounts? Leave as is or get them redone?

Cheers for that, I have been googling on the subject of making holes haha.

Yeah, looking at somewhere else to get the mounts done, my only issue is that the car is stuck on the folks drive still at the moment, so limited where I can take it, as it has no exhaust so cannot start it and the brakes are not fully fitted yet, so can’t really move it either.

Someone has given me a number of a place in Walsall so not far away, was going to ring him and speak to him to see what we can do.

Use plenty of water when you drill the carbon Carl. Wet down the surface, the drill bits etc. If you’ve got a tray or tub you can put water in and cut it in, that would be best. As H said, carbon dust is bad stuff.

Shame you’re not closer to Devon bud, my mate could have banged those cage mounts out with his eyes closed.
Have you tried finding someone who can do mobile welding? Always worth a look bud, a quick Google could save you a lot of grief ;)

Wetting isn’t ideal if you’re using diamond grit, it’ll clog it up much faster. Dry cut outside ideally. Wetting down or a lubricant is more suited to routing or drilling. 18 degree Dagger drills are the ideal drill but I’ve not seen them for sale to joe public at the usual places.

Use convential drill bits at your risk. I wouldn’t recommend it. Doable but should be supported through a bush or sacrificial material at a minimum.

Btw, I was a hole production specialist for 8 years in the aircraft industry. I know my apples from my oranges on this subject.

This guy was mobile though and he did them like that.

Although I could not supervise as I was in hospital so I guess if someone else comes I can keep a watchful eye haha

I wouldn’t risk it with those if you want a clean hole. What sizes do you want? I’ll link you something more appropriate

The gauges are 52mm but I will need one for the hole for the gear selector to come through as well

I have a 95mm one I’m done with, you can have that for free.

Struggling to find a decent 52mm one on a quick search. Would 2” (50.8mm) do the job?

Ideally like that but without the caselations.

Thanks for that, I don’t mind returning back to you if you want it back, as I will only use it for this and that’s it.

I have had a look and can’t seem to find a 52mm either, did find a kit with a 53mm.

Found this kit on Amazon with a 50mm included as well as some smaller ones, so may need the others if I fit anything else to it.

They’re spot on. Get ‘em bought.

PM me and address and I’ll send it over mate. Won’t be for 3 weeks though, I’m working abroad. Up to you if you want to send it back or not, I’m not sure it’s got that many holes left in it.

Without pilots you need a template though. I used 4mm ply wood. To get an accurate cut on the ply I carefully marked out hole centres and then scored in a start for the holes using a set of callipers, stops it wandering around when you start.

HEL have made a new line up so those have now been fitted.
