Loxy's Type R #6

hi lox no seals or sealant but you can add some clear silicone to stop the leak i did this in my mugen spoiler

Actually, flat rubber washers would be more suitable. I'd hazard a guess at an ID of say 20mm. Not sure on thickness but if they are a standard 1 or 2 mm then at least you could stack them if required?

Audi use a flat rubber washer to retain the undertray quick releases, which might work? 25mm OD, part# 4A0805137

Had a go at the spoiler today.

In my enthusiasm to get at the bolts I started pulling every bit of plastic out of the boot lid.

Completely unnecessary. You just need the section behind the spoiler that contains the high level light surprisingly enough.

Those four nuts you can see there in the picture below and then the one bolt centre of frame in the picture below that, one on either side.

The spoiler off ready to clean up.

You can just about make out on the pic above the foam Honda put on to seal the spoiler to the perspex section of the hatch glass. It was sopping wet, obviously letting moisture through. My boot floor was also full of water. I managed to get about two dozen full sponges worth of water out of the boot. My spoiler was also full of water that didn't want to come out so for my own sanity I drilled a hole at either end of the underside of the spoiler both to the rear where it hovers over the outside of the bootlid when fitted. You can see one if you look closely at the corner of the spoiler furthest away.
In future water will drain out of its own accord if it gets in again rather than through the holes into the bootlid.

Holes in the bootlid once I had cleaned off 9 years worth of grime that had collected:

Those holes are where I positioned the rubber washers. 20mm inner diameter and 3mm thick generic rubber washers from eBay, tacked in place with two little dabs of glue just to hold them while the spoiler went back on.

Side profile without the spoiler just for giggles.

Hopefully that solves it and will go a long way to solving the misting up issues. During winter I was having to defrost outside and inside of the windscreen which is no fun at all, never mind not being ideal for the interior electronics. :(

Will update over the coming weeks.

Oh and this came...

Absolute Billy bargain that I couldn't leave at the price.

Will likely fit during the week before I'm back at work at the weekend.

Spent the afternoon messing about in the sun.

Drying the boot out some more.

Chip repair, not a sensational result but better than it was before.

Not updated in a while.

I've had a pesky air-con system fault.

I originally thought it was the fabled 8G AC relay as it wasn't kicking Inna all, so replaced that, cheaper than dealer part from Tegiwa and a doddle to swap. Unfortunately that didn't cure it.

Then I went to get it refilled and was told it was holding pressure and that would be it done, but in case they'd put the obligatory dye in the system. £55 for test and refill. Nope, stopped working by the next time I drove it.

So I took it to Grinspeed. I know they don't do air-con refills but they'll get to the bottom of it. They got a mobile specialist down to them who pressured the system and used a "sniffer" (no idea, don't ask) to find the leak. Turned out it was the condenser.

Familiar territory this, as my FD2 needed the condenser replacing too. Guess the Honda price? Yep similar to the FD2 price, £478.80 just for the part. Absolutely ridiculous price.

Andrew Page to the rescue and OEM equivalent part for £102.99.

FUBAR.

The condenser has been in the car for a week and it's all still working. Grinspeed did all the spanner work at a great price and I got to look at some decent cars while I was there.

^ My front end never left, it's a 1 piece fibreglass flip front :) .... and look at that lovely wrapped manifold :)

Glad to hear it's sorted John. NSX  oh and that cosmic ep3 is kitted the fcuk out isn't it! Wonder whose that is.

Issues still outstanding:
  • I've still got the inner NS plastic panel to replace but I've been working loads of overtime lately so it's not got done.
  • It could probably do with a new front bumper as the one on it now has a decent scrape on the OS corner that has just been touched up.
  • It has two small dents on the roof that I have no idea how or when they appeared.
  • The bonnet could probably do with replacing or respraying as it has some filled chips that have gone funny with being machine polished over time.
  • It has a funny feeling of hesitancy at part throttle on VTEC that isn't there if you drop off cam or go full throttle, so it either needs a map tweak or a fuelling issue. That's been there since I've had it, so I'll have to book in at TDi at some point for diagnosis. Has to be TDi as it's mapped on Ecutek and they're the only people who really do it up here.
So that's before I think of any more mods.

I've already spent probably close to £3k on essential and preventative maintenance on it so far in less than a year. It's on 82k so will need the chain doing in a couple of years. I bought it for £7.5k plus the audio system last year and the market on them has tanked recently. I've been seeing similar mileage Championship White FN2s selling for £5-£5.5k. So that puts me £5k down before I've fixed any of the above issues. Fcking cars. I went for a Champ White as it looked like they were holding money.

I've paid my credit card off from the work it needed when I got it, so technically it owes me nothing now. I've been getting loads of OT so other loans are getting paid off so I think my plan is to keep it for a couple of years and just run it getting the hesitancy issue sorted soon, then get something new or nearly new when the loans are gone. I'm undecided whether I keep it or get rid then. At the minute I'm leaning towards get rid, I'm losing the enthusiasm for tweaking on a 10 year old car with 82k on it, that I'm now on my third iteration of the same model. I guess it depends on whether it gives me any more grief in the mean time. It's still an absolute giggle of a car. It's not at the level of my silver one, but it feels reminiscent of it.

Regarding the AC condenser, is there options for added protection / mesh?
I know DC5 owners used to fit a £20 mesh from Halfords which worked well and looked almost OEM, though newer Hondas don’t look as vulnerable.

You may not know, but out of interest are the fn2 & fd2 condensers different? Mine appears fine but I’m curious.

On the subject of values, I wouldn’t think about it too much. You’d loose way more in depreciation on most new cars :)

I'd have to mesh the lower section of the grille. Not impossible, but the old one had lasted nearly 10 years and 80k. It's not had a bad innings.

I'm pretty sure the FD2 and FN2 condenser is different, though I've not seen them side by side.

Three hours up on the train, two hours back but she's home.

Needs a new clutch but it is already booked into Grinspeed next week, plus 15mm Eibachs are being fitted, FRSU, 75k major service, braided lines and fluid.

Passenger mirror doesn't fold but I think that's the Shut Off Device (S.O.D.) which is an easy fix.

Already got a HKS RSK, Milltek non-res and remapped with Ecutek.

Have you got a build thread on this fix mate?
