FK8 Wheel Kerbing

Made a mess of my nearside front again today and I am getting hacked off at the ease with which I can do this.

Has anybody been moved to change to a different diameter wheel / tyre setup?

18” team dynamics would be the way to go. Search timmmmytimtttim thread in members cars.

What, to prevent kerbing as in a tyre with more of a lip on it?

Might be more economical to go with a wheel refurb once or twice a year. It's only £20/£25 a pop

I have had a quote of £70 per wheel previously.I guess that is the way I will go, as I have just put two new Conti's on the front.

Don't pay over the odds guys.

I got mine done at City Wheel Refinishers. Even though it's a 3 hour round trip it's worth it.

Recently clipped a gigantic kerb in Lakeside multi-storey. Back of the car went up in the air and I put a massive dent in my back left alloy and took a chunk out of my tyre side wall....

Sent photos of the damage to a well rated mobile alloy repair company and he said due to the pinstripe red loop round the edge he couldn't do the repair (as he would usually smooth out and re-dip the whole wheel). He said I would need to let a specialist have it and spend quite a lot of time on it to sort it out.

As for the £20/£25 mentioned above - never. £60 to £100 per wheel usually. Damage must be extremely minor for someone to do it for £20.

My car is in today to do the passenger side wheels, got kerb rash on both, £80 per wheel. I got alloy insurance when I got the car, very happy I did... The garage is keeping the car for more than a day, since they first need to repair and paint the whole wheel and then do the red stripe, so double drying process, hopefully I will be able to get it back tomorrow during lunchtime

There must be lots more wheels out there that will fit on the Type R.
Using this tool. http://www.willtheyfit.com/ I have been looking at Romac Venom or Bola CSR
The 60 ET on the standard wheel is difficult to source but ET45 will fill the arch better.

There are plenty of 18" wheels that fit with offset ranges from ET45 to ET53 (most are ET45). Oponeo and performancealloys have plenty, which I think all come form TUV certificates issued in Germany/Austria for the FK2 or FK8

They look better without the red pinstripe, some rock chick went all black on her fk2 rims and it looked spot on

Hey mate who did you do your alloy insurance with? Do they specify the repairers I presume?

I did it with http://gapinsurance.co.uk/ but the claims go through www.mbginsurance.co.uk

At first they tried with their own SMART mobile repair service, but when they saw the red pinstripe they said they couldn't do it and the agent told me if I want I could look for a local one. I checked and there is one close to me that has good ratings and is recommended by people on Pistonheads so I went ahead with it, the only constraint is that is has to be less than £150 per wheel.

I was really happy with the claim process, in less than a day I had everything approved.

nice one thanks! That's good they let you choose a local one and not try and wriggle out of it as I have heard some wont insure due to the stripe.

You've never used them so know nothing about them.

£20 gets you an acid dip, hand refurb and powdercoat.

I've taken them totally battered wheels that have come out like new.

They've got excellent ratings across various review platforms.

£60 to £100 per wheel  Even prestige places only charge £40 a rim. I know because their vans are always outside City

Have you got a link or contact details? Struggling to find them on google. I am not calling BS mate, but £20 is very, very low. £80 is the norm down sarf for def
