Need Help Engine Rebuild

Hello all im after someone with engine knowledge for my Type-R EP3 55 plate (premier edition not sure if that makes a difference but there ya go)

Here's the back story; I bought the car about a year ago and i had it for like a month and it threw up an engine management light. I plugged my code reader in (just a cheap (£40 one) from amazon and it bought up the codes for a miss fire on all the cylinders and the multiple miss fire code and a temp code for cylinder 3. The car drives fine to me and I've drove my friends EP3 and they drive near on the same which confused me i'm not expert on cars not even close when i come to engines etc.

So I turned the code off and i didn't see the code again for another few months and then i just became intermittent so i took it to a local garage to have i checked out. On their website it said they was Honda specialists so i thought perfect place to take it.

I left my car with them and then later on he asked me to come down back to garage. He said my spark plugs and valve clearances we're fine. And then he did a compression test. Like i said i'm not a mechanic at all so he gave me these figures

Cyl 1: 13.1 Bar
Cyl 2: 13.9 Bar
Cyl 3: 8.9 Bar (filled with oil and he said PSI went back up to 15.7 Bar)
Cyl 4: 13.9 Bar

Without my own machine to do a compression test of my own i don't know if these figures are a lie either not to be an arse about it, it's just a possibility in this day and age not everyone's honest anymore.

He put at the bottom cyl 3 needs repair and he think it's piston rings. and that i need an engine rebuild. This is where it confuses me the most. He quoted me £3-4,000 for the rebuild I have no idea how much the parts actually cost and I would love for someone to get a rough price on the parts i would need to repair cyl 3 or the piston rings if that is the problem like he said. The price seems crazy high my Other half recently had her A3 2.0T rebuilt as chain jumped a tooth and that only costs £2,100 and she had to basically have a whole new top engine rebuild minus pistons as they was saved. That price included full service spark plugs everything, a valet, repairs to the head all the parts to repair the top half and his labour. I thought audi's we're more expensive to get fixed am i wrong? This was at a different garage to where I took My EP3 is this guy just blowing smoke and trying to rip me off? His labour was £40 per hour btw as well. I would really love someones insight here i'm really not a mechanic and have little knowledge of engine repairs. Should i take it to the same garage that did my other halfs for a second opinion and quote?

Thank You to anyone that has read this through and I would love some advice here.

without a doubt, get a few estimates, that seems excessive!

First thing I'd do is a DIY compression test. Then if it's significantly down on compression, pull it apart.
