EP3 Annoying/unknown noise above certain revs

I'm trying to work out what the cause of this noise is. Any help would be appreciated because it's a little disconcerting and it's really hard to pin down when looking directly at the engine (drowned in the rest of the sound). It's quite obvious in this clip though and shows up somewhere around 4200rpm.

Sounds like a noisy head. Is the oil level OK? When was the last time the clearances were done?

Clearances were done end of 2017 (maybe 10,000Mi ago I think, I'll have to recheck that since I have the paperwork but hadn't added it to my spreadsheet), oil level is fine (was serviced at the beginning of the year and I check up on it quite frequently).

It's all the more frustrating because it's not at a crossover point, it's much harder to detect when looking at the engine directly, and it's not audible/noticeable below 4k (to me, at least).

Any other thoughts, or should I just take it in to someone?

Usual sources of noise are loose or corroded heatshield and split engine mounts, but that doesn't really sound like it.

Internet diagnostics are usually always guesswork as you can't see the car. Where abouts are you? A specialist may be your best bet.

Yeah, I was semi-hopeful someone might just have heard/had something similar, not expecting miracles.

I'm in the South-East, West Sussex, near Horsham.

Thanks Loxy.

Ah, TDi-plc in Thurrock might be close for you then. I would recommend TGM in Fleet, but that might be a bit of a trek.

Is it like a metallic shimmering sound?

If so then cat or driveshaft heatshields are really common to make awful noises

I guess you could call it that. The video has it (above 4k rpm) but you need either decent headphones or a fair boost on the volume.

There's no cat heatshield (or at least nothing directly wrapped around it any more).

I'll try applying some pressure to the driveshaft and manifold ones though and see if that makes a difference, thanks for the ideas.
