EP3 Engine Noise

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help me diagnose an engine noise please.

I've uploaded a video of the noise here: https://youtu.be/resXuqW0hx8

The noise is not audible at idle and becomes noticeable from 1500-3000 rpm onward, depending on how open the throttle is. When driving normally it shows up around 3000rpm but stays noticeable throughout the upper rev range. It happens in idle and in gear, with or without the clutch depressed.

It's hard to tell from a video, but it sounds like its coming directly from the cylinder head/rocker cover area.

Any ideas?

Update to this: I drove the car to see if I could identify when the issue is happening and the car suddenly completely cut out and will not even attempt to turn over, like its seized. Any ideas?

Have you got an obd2 reader to try and get a code?
Sounds like piston slap. What's the mileage? Has the chain been replaced? Does it use a lot of oil?

Yeah thought to try that after it died, no code showing unfortunately.

I did find a few more things: it was much less noticeable when cold and it would go away when letting off the throttle. So if I was at 4000rpm and I let off the throttle it would immediately disappear, even if I was going down hill so the car stayed at 4000rpm just not under load. Would that still happen with piston slap?
