Fk8 wheel spacers - thoughts?

Messages

Looking at getting some 25 or 30mm spacers to fill the arches out but read that it totally kills the handling. Any thoughts, experience or advice?

Concious this might be the wrong section but figured it would be OK as it's handling related!

I know of a few locally who've ditched spacers on FK2s for performance reasons.

I know on the FK8 the wheels are sunk into the arches for aero reasons; allowing the front air curtain to work and the sideskirts to create a curtain at the rear - So you may actually lose some MPG! (Not that it matters ;) )

What possible reason could they attribute to a loss in performance by putting spacers on their wheels?

It’s the same principles as this:

The scrub radius is crucial to the car not torque steering badly. I’m sure this has been the case with many cars but only more recently as manufacturers have really started to push the limits with a FWD has this come to light. We’ve probably been ruining the handling of our Hondas for years! Lol

Despite all of the above though the Americans swear by a lower offset wider profile tyre on an 18inch rim. Spacers alone though are likely sacrificing performance for looks to some scale. If you’re going to do it I’d say save the money towards a lower offset set of rims.
