Which clutch to get

Hi all,

Off the back of my old post (I wasn't sure if id get a response adding to the old one)

I was going to get a genuine Honda Clutch kit, i was advised to look at buying one and then getting Honda to fit or just going to Honda and getting it all done directly (Around 700-800) I was looking at Clutch kits online and i can see Stage 2 clutch kits etc for only 30-40 quid more than the genuine Honda kit, for example.

https://www.tegiwaimports.com/rpc-s...-type-r-ep3-fn2-k20-integra-dc5-k-series.html

My question is that if i'm getting the clutch changed should i just spend another 50 or so quid and a get an uprated stage 2 or 3 clutch, i am planning on doing things to the car in the future which may take it up 20-30 bhp.

Is it worth it? Will i see any benefits I.E. longer lifespan, better/smoother shifts etc? Will these last longer when you're really shifting quick.

Thanks again guys!

To keep it short. No, genuine Honda will be up to the job. No need for anything else with a small increase in power.

I'm running an Exedy oem clutch which is not running 360bhp and it's been fine for just over 1k miles including a trackday. So no problems with the genuine item. I'd stick with Honda as the release bearing in mine is a little noisy already, having covered only 5k miles but I don't use it very much.

I hope this helps to make your decision.

Oem cluth no need for a stage 2 or 3 unless you have big power just so you know grinspeed will fit a new clutch for around £400 that including the clutch

Thanks mate, iv'e heard the release bearings on the Exedy aren't that great. Yeah might as well just get the genuine Honda gear then!

I think the Honda part is made by excedy i had it done at grinspeed and ive had it on the car for 5 years

Ah I see, well Loxy recommended getting the genuine Honda kit rather than the partial Exedy/honda kit most places offer. If you go on Clickmechanic you can get someone fit the entire kit at your address for around 450, but it's the Exedy/Honda mix clutch.

I think id rather pay the extra 300 or so to get it done at Honda with the official parts.

I was just checking to see if I could get a Stage 2 or 3 clutch which will be higher quality than the Honda clutch for the same price as the dealer would charge to fit and supply the standard one

Where abouts are you? There's a fair few Honda specialists who do them day in day out and will be far cheaper than a dealer and most likely with far more experience on the older models.

Stick to the genuine Honda clutch kit and I'd get a reputable Honda specialist to fit it.

Tgm in Fleet I've used for my diff install, can't fault them.

Cheers Norv! I've dropped them a message! For a Genuine Honda kit they only have to beat Hondas quote of £780, I'll see what they say :)

That's much better than the dealer then! Tom's a really good bloke, I have been really happy with the work they've done for me.

I hope it all goes well.

Yeah mate absolutely! The dealership offered £200 cash back to help with cost of the replacement and also offered to pay for the VAT if i have the receipt payable to the dealership. So that's a new clutch for pretty much nothing! If they do a good job i'll definately be back for more things, there's a lot I want to do.

What sort of stuff have they done with yours?

They've fitted my m factory limited slip diff and done the same for a mates swift. Plenty of people on here have used them, they have a decent reputation. Usually pretty busy so hopefully you won't have to wait too long!

What plans do you have for it? These things get way out of hand quickly. I wasn't going to modify mine and I'm running a rotrex charger and 360bhp currently.

Well I'm not too sure yet, im planning on getting the exhaust changed for sure, along with possibly a HKS with heatsheild and then get it all mapped on top, it's a great car but could really use some low down mid range grunt!

I'll see how things go after that, the car already has drilled and slatted discs all round and the brakes feel very strong so I don't feel as though they need upgrading.

Mine is a 61 plate so it has the diff already luckily! You can certainly feel it, never had a car grip like this one does, feels like it's just pulling you through the corners.
