EP3 High mileage cars

Hi there, I’m new into the world of ep3’s.
Are cars of about 140k worth avoiding due to potential cam chain failure etc?
Or are these done as a preventative rather than them actually failing?
Interested to hear of opinions from owners of relatively high mile cars.

Thanks

Mine is on 108k and I had it changed on 104k. It had stretched a bit but wasn't too bad, general opinion seems to be change at 100k.

My opinion is to *check* it at 100k - no point changing it if it's not needed.

140k miles is fine as long as it's looked after and well maintained.

My EP3 is approaching 150k and still mint. The difference is each of those miles since new in 2004 has been driven by me.
I've known cars with half the mileage and 6 owners that have been wrecked.
It's not the number of miles, but type of miles.

Mark.

Had mine checked (along with the pulleys and bearings as the belt was shot as I just bought it recently) at 150k KM (93k miles) at the same time as I had the valve adjustments checked and everything was still solid.

You can't check the chain properly until it's removed, any other method is an educated guess.
