FK8 Electric Hand Brake (power use)

Hi all

I sometimes leave the CTR parked up for a couple weeks at a time. I have noticed the auto start / stop being disabled a couple times when I do drive it (I often turn it off anyway) and I think this is due to the battery charge being low. I have always left manual cars in gear with hand brake off to prevent seizing.

On these vehicles this is also possible: stop turn off engine without applying brake and it seems to me the brake remains disengaged. The question is; does that mean a constant draw on the battery, thus causing a more immediate concern to the battery health?

Help / advice appreciated :)

I think the way it works is motor on and motor off so no 'fail safe' position hence no power drain when brake in either position... Happy to have that confirmed or denied

Good question. I think your assumption is correct. I had a look at this article:

The main issue I see with these is if there is an electrical fault with the car at any point the motors will either not be engaged (no e-brake) or not be disengaged in which case you’ll be stuck!
Common fault in new Land Rover/Range Rovers I've been told by the AA man neighbour.

Only solution is to drag it onto a flatbed and take them to the garage for repair, he said you can't do anything roadside in a decent timeframe.

Keep mine on a trickle charge, to avoid any issues. Appreciate it isn't easy when you leave a car outdoors but you get solar ones.

You should be able to set the brake to off when the car engine is off and the car is left, otherwise how would you be able to change the rear pads?
