FK8 Tow bars or not?

Messages

Hi,
Just joined the forum. I don't own a type R yet, but its on my list. Need to sell my Honda NSX first to fund things, cant run both and the NSX isnt getting used enough these days much as I love it.
I'm a keen Mountain Biker and use a Pendle rack to throw my bike on to my GTI as I hate damaging the interior by putting the bike in the back. But I read on the FAQ's a tow bar is forbidden as it damages the suspension of the Type R. My question is; does this include Bikes? Its definitely not for a caravan!!

Should also be forbidden as it damages the rep of the Type R badge haha

Given the exhaust runs up the centre rear of the car, not sure you could fit one without major modification anyway.

I'd go roof rack. There are some good solutions particularly on the US site.

welcome ricky, tell us more about the NSX!

I too am in the market now for a bike rack. Covid has meant I have actually got my ar5e in gear and out on the mountain bike a lot more and the bug has bitten.

I am looking into roof bars and then bike holder for on top. No chance of tow bar with the exhaust as has been said and good luck with a boot mounted rack with our wing..! Will share if I am successful

Lets ignore the 1990s Ford Orion RS bodykit, (seriously don't like it) but these are the bars I mean

Depends what nsx it is. New ones list at £143k brand new but you can get one for delivery miles at £112k...

So you could argue nsx has depreciated quicker....just saying

Thanks guys useful stuff.

As to my NSX I bought it 4 years ago, part of my brilliant pension withdrawal plan, ( Looking back maybe just an excuse to buy a supercar) but prices stalled. Fair enough, I have to say its easily the nicest thing I've ever driven. My pal has several high end cars ( 911RS 1973 anyone?) and he'd never seen one in the flesh and was well taken with the looks. To drive? Gorgeous and remarkably unfussed no matter if you are at Sainsburys ( no chance in those car parks) or shooting along the lanes. Sounds beautiful, handles perfectly, and is totally reliable. No Ferrari badge so the snobs look down at them, but I've driven them all ands it a better car by far.But I need to sell it. Long story but I got defrauded by Malton Specialist Cars who sold my 1988 Supersport ( I'd had it for twenty years) and pocketed the money. Then he went bust owing £4,500,000. That part of my pension has gone. If that hadnt happened I'd keep the NSX. But I have to cut my cloth to suit my tailor.
My daily runner is a GTI Golf, lovely thing but having owned a Honda NSX I reckon the Type R is a good compromise, and not too sensible for a petrol head!

And no I'm not wealthy, just a car nut who lost a lot of his pension!!

Can we have some pics please!

Sorry to hear about the supersport....hope something unpleasant happens to the Malton boss

You will enjoy the Fk8 no doubt. You looking to get a 2020 or used?

NSX

Looking to get used, maybe £20K or so. I've tried to attach a pic but I'm new to site so we'll see if it works.

I did the same with an F-Type ! If its in the blood you cant help it.
At the moment I am lusting after an LC500 to sit next to the FK8.
One day....

Driven a number of supercars and the Mk1 NSX is way up there along with a 458, both very memorable drives for different reasons but similar in my assumptions, sound amazing, handles just right, driving position, brakes well the lot, the only thing I didn't need enjoy was the fuel economy on track of both, although only did one session in Ferrari.

The new NSX I test drove back to back with a 570s, the latter had it in all areas in my opinion, espeacily given how low £ they are dropping too now.

FK8 is really very good and there are not many niggles, biggest one is cooling, not an issue if you don't plan to track. Enjoy!

Why does the description for that video say that both cars are using twin turbos?
Yet more proof that people don’t look into the thing they’re reviewing

Hold up a minute. You mean to say that fitting one of these DOESN’T mean I’m twin turbo??

Gutted :D

Sorry to hear about your misfortune OP.

I will check my owners manual but I would be wary with them on the roof too. I remember we bought a new Jazz back in 14 and the manual said specifically no bikes mounted to roof rails. Apparently the lift generated by them going 70mph on your roof can actually damage the roof metal as it’s only thin.

Maybe the FK8 is a little more sturdy but I will check!
