FK8 Tow bars or not?

Folks in the US have been using them with kayaks as well in some cases as it doesn't actually touch the roof too much, its weight is all on the frame around the tops of the doors

Roof racks

Hold up a minute. You mean to say that fitting one of these DOESN’T mean I’m twin turbo??

Gutted :D

Sorry to hear about your misfortune OP.

I will check my owners manual but I would be wary with them on the roof too. I remember we bought a new Jazz back in 14 and the manual said specifically no bikes mounted to roof rails. Apparently the lift generated by them going 70mph on your roof can actually damage the roof metal as it’s only thin.

Maybe the FK8 is a little more sturdy but I will check!

Interesting! So; Cant use a tow bar. Cant hang a rack on the tailgate due to the spoiler ( and THATS not going the journey) and maybe cant use a roof rack. Maybe the Japanese Engineers didnt think of cyclists? Odd that.

No you can absolutely fit roof bars and a bike rack

Am I misunderstanding you, your gonna get rid of the wing?

Definitely not! I’d rather not take the bike than do that. I may just persuade the wife to let me stick the muddy bike in her car.... hmmm or perhaps not

My colleague who is heavily into cycling fits her bike into the back of her two door fiesta st on an old sheet so it doesn’t damage the interior. With the amount of boot space the FK8 has with folded down rear seats would that not be an option.

Yep I have often done that over the years thanks. Means taking the wheel off etc and the winter rides the bike gets filthy so it’s not a perfect solution but it’s definitely something I’ll end up doing I reckon

I’ve given up doing bike park stuff now, I hurt myself too many times because I’m not very good at it :D
But a couple of my mates clubbed together and bought a cheap ford connect mini van thing. I think it was about £1200 but it’s been reliable and still going about 4 years on. Could be an option? In addition to the FK8 obviously which would then be kept pristine!

Not sure what the car parks are like where your trails are but I can think of better places to take an FK8 if I’m honest. Gravelly, pot holey etc

Hi,
Just joined the forum. I don't own a type R yet, but its on my list. Need to sell my Honda NSX first to fund things, cant run both and the NSX isnt getting used enough these days much as I love it.
I'm a keen Mountain Biker and use a Pendle rack to throw my bike on to my GTI as I hate damaging the interior by putting the bike in the back. But I read on the FAQ's a tow bar is forbidden as it damages the suspension of the Type R. My question is; does this include Bikes? Its definitely not for a caravan!!

Going for this and this mount

Seems sensible. BTW I fell out with Thule, I got 2 bikes ripped from their "locked" rack and stolen in seconds by a low life, and they basically said "tough" the locks are are not meant to be secure.

Appaling customer service, I'd never buy from them again. Dont ever rely on their "locks" as I'm sure you dont intend to.

Really sorry to hear of your trouble Malton Specialist Cars. I had a 1986 Carrera Targa Supersport and used them for bits and pieces.

I ran into the guy at Highclere I think and was not impressed.

Did you get roof bars Fan? Any reason for going for the expensive Honda ones?

Considering a set of whispbars myself (I already have two of the Thule carriers)

They were great on my old ST220 but that had mounting points, makes me a little nervous that the civic doesn’t tbh. Don’t want any scratches or dents!

No i have not made the purchases yet tbh James...due to lockdown only been out on the bike locally but defo going to revisit now its eased a bit. Thanks for the link, that is a good bit cheaper. I just thought the 'official' ones may be a safer bet as they are on the bodywork as you say, but if you have been happy with them before

ive got the hump, I had two punctures last week on different wheels...then this morning I have another one. I am going to get some of them wooden wheels.
