FK2 Climate control - dual zone issues

Hi all, I posted in the faults section but haven't had any joy so thought I'd have more luck in the FK2 specific section.

I've got a 2017 FK2 and the dual zone climate control has stopped dual zoning. The passenger side vents and left middle vent get ice cold, but the driver's middle and side vents are just kind of warmish (when set to the same temperatures) Anyone got any ideas please before I take it into the garage? Honda have said they can charge anything up to £105 for just finding out what the fault is (car is out of warranty in March, typically).

Much appreciated.

Quick Google throws up temperature door actuator, not saying that's your problem but different temps is a symptom

ignoring dual zone for a moment... heater intermittent heat? check you're not low on coolant!

Hi, thanks for replies - I don't know about the door actuator unit, seems a very unusual problem, but wouldn't rule it out. I checked the coolant and it is full - not easy to check the coolant, it's in a black tank! Might see if an independent Honda specialist can look at it next week, anyone heard of JDT Tuning in Tonbridge, Kent? Can't really find any other Honda specialists that aren't miles away that might be able to help with this.

Are they set at the same blowers, I know if my drivers is set at the footwell the front vents blow slightly warmer

Yeah I just always leave it on a set temperature around 20 degrees on 'auto' all the time. I don't mess around with the other buttons for changing fan speed or direction of fan - I have since the problem has occurred, but like I said it's always just set on auto to 20 deg.

It's a well known fault. Your local Honda dealer will be totally aware. My wife has had this twice with her 9th gen civic. It can be sorted it's a part that goes. If you look on YouTube there's a few videos showing the problem and a fix for it. I'm sure you will get it sorted .All the best regards Fred.

Further to my last comment Honda dealers labour charges have gone up recently I think it's around £140.00 per hour. Just take your car to a good local garage. Be sure to watch the videos on YouTube so you will be familiar what the fault is.Regards.

Thanks to all who replied, I have an update on this. Well I had it inspected by an ex-Honda guy who set up his own business and he check it over and found all the motors and directional venting bits (stop me if I'm getting too technical!) were operating fine and the heating/cooling aspects were fine too. He suggested getting the air con checked for leaks and then re-gassed if it was all good.

Took it to Kwik-Fit the other day who performed the check, found it was low, re-gassed it and everything is fine now - all vents blowing ice cold air equally. They couldn't explain the different temperatures for the dual zones, but I suspect maybe it's to do with how the ducting works behind the dash. Anyway, they asked if the car been sat around for a while, as this can lead to the gas depleting and becoming inefficient if its not being circulated regularly, and due to lockdown I've only done 700 miles in it since February, so this probably led to it going downhill. They said the more you use the aircon/climate, the longer it lasts, apparently. To give a heads up it cost £120 due to new post 2017 gas being mega expensive. Anyway, all sorted now :smt035.

Good to hear alls well. Be sure to run your aircon if only for 10-15:mins every time your out in your fk2 Even in winter just to circulate the gas as it stops so im told the seals drying out and eventually leads to loss of gas. 2years ago the new gas had just come in and I paid £70.00 probably gone up by now but if you find an aircon specialist in future you'll probably get it less than you paid.Regards Fred.
