SNAPPED DRIVESHAFT EP3 - Anyone used www.jandrcvjoints for driveshafts?

Hi, anyone ...

Quality, fitment, durability & price of J & R?

I need a left driveshaft as mine has snapped, rusted through on the harmonic balancer (collects water and as a result rusts the shaft), although it is 18yrs old. I would prefer Honda OEM, but they're mega money, Tegiwa do a manufactured to OEM specifications which is a reasonable price, J & R CV joints do a really cheap price (hope it's not made of chinesesium). I think someone recommended J & R on here?

The shafts are well regarded. But the cv boots they fit are awful and don't last at all.

I changed the boots before I fitted some to my old A3, they're still going strong 3 years later.

I'd go for those, insane driveshafts and tegiwa etc will probably be very similar just significantly more expensive.

There is a comparson of the old and replacement, there is severe rust where the balance weight was, it has reduced the diameter from 24 mm to 20mm, the snapped shaft has a small milled slot , I guess to locate the harmonic balance weight which has led to the crack

Pics aren't working. But I've seen loads fail in the same way. Some say to cut the balance bit off to save the corrosion, but it's just a case of when it will happen I guess.

Which did you go for in the end?

I’d agree with this. I fitted some shafts to my Alfa 156 track car. The boot lasted about a 50 miles it just split. I can only presume it’s due to fitting cheap boots not the stretchy ones.
