to see it you need someone to vtec past you as you can't engage vtec in neutral.
What car do you have?
Likely causes are valve guides/valve seats not creating a perfect seal or worn cylinder bores/pistol rings. Both of which are not cheap fixes and involve a reasonable amount of labour to remove cylinder head to replace guides and re-seat the valves. If it is the bores then its a full strip down and new cylinder liners & piston rings.
