Got my insurance renewal....

Me and the other half renewed with Adimral last month, but when our renewal price came through I was shocked how it had jumped, Im 26 shorlty to be 27 have 9yrs no clams, my other half is 33, has 14yrs no clams and drives standard Mini cooper,
So i rang to see why the increase and if they could do anything to the price.

I must have spoke to the most un helpfull misserable woman, who in short didnt want to know.
So on went the laptop and started to search around, as i was getting stupid quotes i thought I'd head back to Admiral try the mutli car again but start as if we were new customers,

The quote i got back was instantly £300 cheaper, so rang up and gave the new reference number which as it was a quote by themselves they matched it straight away, job done for another year!!

hi there i dont own a dc5 yet as i cant find insurance as most places wont insure a 19 year old male no claimes no points ect ect my licence totaly clean but if there is any one out there in the same shoes i would realy appreciate the help many thanks to all

You're trying to insure the wrong car at that age bud. Go for a UKDM EP3 first, which will be a fair bit cheaper to insure and progress to a DC5 a couple of years down the line. This is what I did. EP3 at 21, DC5 at 24.

Got my insurance renewal through from sky and it's about £100 more than last year, even though i've moved house to a lower risk postcode and its now garaged over night! WTF?1

When I told Sky about those changes the fella said 'Good news! The premium hasn't gone up, its the same as it was before' yeah but it's still more than last year! Currently looking for cheaper quotes.

harv say the car isn't garaged, sometimes its cheaper saying its on the road (logic behind that is someone less likely to bust into house to get keys as they won't know the house to go for). renewals are always a con anyway. you have to call up as new business. ins co's like to shaft their customers on renewal thinking they are stupid and or lazy.

I found this when I looked at insurance that having the car in the drive or garaged over night had s higher renewal than parking it on the road.

brokers probably don't play as many games as the companies themselves. but business is business i can't blame them for having a go. example here, got renewal through a few weeks ago with admiral. i had paid about £380 per year on the bmw. renewal £700. when doing a moneysupermarket admiral came up at £400 as expected. they think we're CANTS or something?

Sky wouldn't insure me parked on the road. Not looking forward to November though.

The reason it is good news is that without the change of circumstances you would have been looking at a 15%-20% increase.. and to be fair this is much less than the industry's 40% rise.

Can you explain where this figure of 40% has come from because it seems to me that it has simply been plucked out of thin air. Then insurers make out they're doing you a favour when they say your premium is 'only' going up 20%.

I accept with the number of ambulance chasers and people claiming for whiplash at the drop of a hat has affected margins, and the recent ruling concerning discrimination between sex has thrown a spanner in the works, but come on do insurers really believe that a 40% rise is justified?

By the way this isn't a rant as my premium is peanuts I'm merely curious.

Google / national press is your friend.

Fixed lol.

on the contary, I'm usually happy to answer queries where I can but the fact is there is enough info about this on the internet and has been widely publicised in the national press, coupled with the fact that I have got back from 10 days annual leave to 700+ emails and 200+ car clubs to check, really doesnt leave me enough time to give you a full explanation.

But thank you for your comment.

People scraping thier can driving it in and out.

thats just stupid, a car is safer kept in a garage then on a road or drive way, you straight away eliminate the possibility of accidental damage from others, some one breaking in to your car or damaging on purpose, crashing in to your can and theft!

Not necessarily, a car kept in a garage gives thieves more time to break into it. Also, as pointed out a lot of people scrape their car when moving it in or our of the garage and a car could more likely to be accidently damaged when kept in a garage.

whos gonna claim for a "scrape" its ridiculous.

Surely its more likely to be safer housed in a brick and mortar building then on a road.

Insurance is out of hand, no wonder people chance it and don't take any out. I also find it amazing how companys can quote such random quotes, i have had a quote from elephant of £900 for my s2k with £250 excess. 2 performance specialists where pleased to quote me £1500 with wait for it... £900 excess!!!!!

Sounds like you need to sort out some cover for future holidays bud. :smt023

Still it will keep you busy and hopefully you'll earn your wage over the next few weeks with some good quotes. ;)

p.s. I'm not one of those waiting reply, my renewal is in September.

cheapest ive found so far is admiral £1050 fully comp, 27yrs old, 4 yrs n/c, garaged at home.

any ideas where i could find a better quote ?
