Double Din Head Unit Advice!

Hi

Should be picking up my fn2 tomorrow :)
Looking at changing the head unit
Can someone show me the photos of theirs, also what you would recommend?

Apologies if you know this and I'm telling you how to suck eggs, but the 8th generation Civic is a bit of a task to put a double din in.

The wiring involved is quite complex, being that if you take out the standard radio it messes with the display on the middle of the dash that does the radio display but also does the A/C and blower displays.

If you just stick a double din in, even if you get the connectors right to power it and connect up the speakers, the display for the heater still won't work.

Thankfully there is a solution, albeit not exactly cheap, to pretty much slot in a double din from Impulse, note that you have to specify which cable set you need for which brand of head unit. I'm pretty sure it retains the use of the steering wheel controls as well.

As for which head unit would best suit you, I don't know much about what is out there to be honest, but I'm sure some of the others will be along soon enough to point you at some good head units soon enough! :)

yeah I've heard that. Is there another route I could take to have bluetooth/aux on the standard stereo then?

Pretty much just a Parrot and a Honda iPod lead really.

You can get a Honda Bluetooth kit but, but whether it would work as well as a Parrot I don't know as I've never seen one in the flesh. It looks different from the Parrot, button is on the dash etc.

thanks I will have a look about will probably stick with the standard one, hopefully will be able to pick her up tomorrow :)

From the price he quotes on that headunit supply and fit (£1150), the unit is £720 including the ipod lead, so he's charging £430 for the leads and to fit. HU may have come in price since June though.

DIY my man, fitting kit is £210 from the link I posted above.

Edit: unit is cheaper on the site linked above. I'm guessing the price is out of date on the CTRO thread.

A lot of things changed since 2011, so I would like to know if you guys still recommend Kenwood head units.
I've been the Kenwood DDX9903S model, because it's the best rated Kenwood on amazon and the head unit doesn't have issues.
Only issue I could find on this link is the annoying pop-up and well the price, but price is not an issue if it works without any problem
Thanks
