Theft Prevention...EP3

Messages

Hi All,

Came back from a weekend away and my next door neighbour knocked on. He has a Porsche Boxster and over the weekend, he has had his boot broken into and his alarm disabled...he isnt sure if it was done on his drive or when he was at footy...but apparently there were some people milling around during the early hours one morning. Thankfully his car wasnt taken so maybe they got spooked? I guess they will be back....It isn't a dodgy area and I'm quite suprised this has gone on...

So, naturally, I am kinda paranoid about my gorgeous little EP3. Apart from disconnecting the HT leads - anyone have any bright ideas into how I can make it REALLY difficult for some **** to attempt to boost my car? Is it easy to remove the steering wheel without the airbag going off in your face?!

Are wheel clamps any good? - I guess you cant remove them without making a noise? Also - how hard is it to steal an EP3 without the keys? It may not be worth buying a wheel clamp if they are secure???

Please help - any answers appreciated!

even with the key without the fob you cant deactivate the imobilser or alarm. gets me all the time in the morning

Your EP3 doesn't have HT leads.

Get a decent alarm is my advice.

Modern systems are very hard to bypass.

The way you have to see it, if someone wants it enough they will take it, low loader with a crane would be the most extreme things. But for an opportunist, don't make it appealing. I have always toyed with the idea of a fuel cut off/battery kill switch hidden somewhere in my Fiesta, will soon get bored of trying.

In all honesty, they went for the Porsche, if they got into the boot and deactivated the alarm, they wanted that one. I wouldn't worry too much. Although if you want some good security at home I would suggest a Security post if you have a driveway. A proper one that drops into the ground, not one that folds over.

It will also bring your insurance premium down.

Hi Tom

You took the words right out of my mouth  I was thinking the same. A mate of mine has got a removable security post which drops down several inches deep and locked in and removed with a special key. I might look into this as well. Not sure what the difference in price with be. I suppose I will have to shop around.

As mentioned. If they want it they'll have it.

All you can do is prolong the time and make it difficult.
Steering wheel locks, clamps, posts etc.

Yeah but with this you can find it again !

Question is, do you really want it back if they do manage to steal it ???
Not sure i would ?

Hidden battery kill switch is probably the cheapest and most effective opition. As already said. If they want it, they will at least give it a try.
Most probably a joy rider that would want to steal an Ep3. can't see a HIAB or any other lift being used.

What a sad society we live in today !

I'm loving that hidden battery kill switch idea although excuse my ignorance, but I was under the impression it was impossible to start a modern car with out the actual key. Because its immobilised and the key has a chip in it?!

No Idea, mate.

I'm not sure that the Ep3 key is chipped ?? Is the imobiliser not linked to the fob only ?
I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't think anything is impossible when it comes to car theft these days !
Sneaky Bas***ds always come up with some way of getting around alarm systems.

The key is coded to the ECU chaps :)

If you for example buy a second hand ECU and try to start the car with your original key you'll immobilise the car and Honda/Specialist would have to get it sorted.

In my EP3 I have a fuel cut-off switch. Gives me a bit of peace of mind. Sometimes my girlfriend spends like 3 minutes looking for it and she knows where it is! That said, if someone *does* want to steal your motor. They will. Just make it seem unsuspecting. Keep all security features that you have enabled at all times (fuel cut off, steering wheel lock, alarm etc). It's about making it not worth the time.

Hypothetically speaking... If I were a joyrider I wouldn't steal a fcuking EP3, I'd steal something that would give me unattainable joy. If I were a thief I'd steal something worth more than a couple grand.

Stop worrying dude, no one wants to nick your car.

I wouldn't worry, they're all taking Audi's at the moment..
