the sounon start up may possibly just be sticking starter motor solenoid, take it off and strip it down and give it a clean. with regards to black smoke, you shouldnt over rev youre engine until its fully warm as it could damage it, the black smoke is un burnt fuel which could be due to it been...

What voltage did it read in closed position? mine wouldn't go lower than 0.515v at idle

i have just checked the voltage in the idle position with ignition on, its reading 0.515v is that acceptable? thats as much adjustment as i can get on it. also full throttle only reads 3.8v??
