Ep3 2nd gear advice

Op did you find a fix?

Must say not impressed with my ep3, gear change has always been poor so got a Honda specialist to rebuild my box with carbon synchros and new bearings ect aswell as a new genuine Honda clutch and the 1st - 2nd selection is still pants so that was a waste of £1300.

Have read someone say that a tegiwa short shift helped but that is conflicting to everything I’ve heard about short shift kits.

Gearbox has genuine Honda gear oil and I’m due to change it as the gearbox has run in now.

Anyone advice a fix before I get rid?

Thanks

Which specialist was that? It should not be problematic after all that work.

Hi Chris, don’t want to sound cryptic but also don’t want to start bad mouthing someone on here.

I’m going to try changing the gear oil to Honda MTF 3 and fit the tegiwa alloy selector bushes to see if it improves.

Shame as I love the engine, best n/a engine I’ve been in but hate the gearbox/steering/suspension :(

Thanks

Nothing but Honda MTF 3 should have been used unless you're running a plated diff in which case friction modifier should be added. Any Honda 'specialist' should know this.

If it doesn’t have MTF 3 in it then it could make a massive difference.

Just to update,

Changed the oil to MTF-3 but still the same issue.

Traded the car in for a mk3 focus rs in June 2019 and tbh, never looked back.
