Fitting a JDM ECU

One of my friends was having ECU problems with his 2002 Civic Type-R and it needed a new ECU. He didn't want all the hassle of Honda plugging it in to sort out the immobiliser problems so found out a JDM ECU would bypass this. After a lot of internet browsing most people told him it would just be plug in and away he goes -not the case though!

It all plugs in and is fine, fit in the same place etc and even starts the car for a few seconds with the fuel that is in it then cuts out. The fuel pump doesnt kick in so you have to 'earth' the fuel pump relay on the block that plugs into the ECU.

It is on the white connector on the dashboard harness, it is green/yellow. It just needs splicing into and soldering and heat wrapped into the loom and a 'o' connector on the other end so it can be attached to the ECU mounting point as the earth.

When we did this we were doing it on a race car only and it wasnt a road legal car so you will have to tell your insurance you dont have an immobiliser. The green key light on the dash can be switched off by removing the bulb.

If you were to do this on your road legal car I would only do it as a last resort 'get you home' mod.

Hope it helps somebody
