I have a 04 civic type r,which i have just replaced the front tyres,when i took the old tyres off the rims they had worn quite badly on the inner edge,is this common?

Yes, I'm afraid its the price you pay for good handling. There are reasons that you could have excessive wear. Camber adjustment out of alignment. But generally they do wear.

Fly, You are best off getting a fast road set up/geometery alligment done.

The pre facelift civics had an issue with the rear tyres wearing badly and this was rectified under warranty (replacement rear arms IIRC).
