I keep in touch with the guy that bought my DC2, and he has switched oil to semi synth from fully synth and it's give from using a fair amount to next to nothing.

I was always under the impression that fully synth is the best option?

Semi is fine as long as you reduce the service intervals.
 
My ATR used a little oil with whatever was in it when I bought it (Honda main dealer serviced) - but when I changed it I put Shell Helix 10/40 Fully Synthetic and now it uses none at all. So I agree its probably more down to the type of oil rather than the synthetic properties.
