When to check oil in my EP3

This might seem a really simple question but everyone keeps telling me different!

Should I check my oil when its warm or cold? Which would give me the more accurate reading?

I'm the same but I heard you should get it upto temperature and leave it to sit for 10 minutes then check it :S

I do it when its cold just because all the oil is sitting at the bottom so you get more accurate reading.

But several mechanic mates always turn the engine on for a few seconds so some gets oil around the engine

But logic says to measure something it needs to be in one place

I check it cold before i drive it to my workshop. Then check again after 10 mins.

Oil at operating temperature, turn engine off and check after about 3 minutes.

This is the most accurate 'operating' level check.
