2009 FN2, has recently developed a slight engine rattle, doesn't seem exclusive to just idling. Anyone had such an issue and if so what would the problem be?
Could really use some advice on this please. It seems a bit louder today. It can be intermittent too and go completely for a few seconds at a time. Also, once warmed up it's hardly noticable. VTEC is also kicking in correctly and there seems to be no loss of power. I have a video on my phone but don't know how to upload it.
Im not sure what a PCV valve is, let alone where it is or how to test it! Do i need any specialist equipment for it?
If i'm stood in front of the engine, it seems to be coming from the left hand side.
The pcv valve, when faulty will make a crackling sound. Pinch the vacuum hose that comes out of the centre of the intake manifold for a second, if the crackling stops then you have a faulty pcv valve. The valve is in the block at the end of that hose.
Could be a pulley rattle.

Thanks guys, just done a quick check and it makes no difference. I checked some videos on YouTube and the valve seemed more to do with making a vacuum noise where as mine is a harsh rattle. Just checked the pulleys i can reach and they all seem good.
I would do the obvious thing and take it to a garage to have it looked at but by the time i would have got there it will have stopped, such is the odd nature of this mystery noise!
