What oil for a track day

Interesting that you mention BMW, the reason the Castrol Edge (now Castrol Supercar) 10w-60 was recommended for the M cars is because that has an ester content. The ester content of oils help the VANOS systems as they cling to the workings, so you don't get the wear on cold starts which is what...

What oil for a track day

More like highly tuned track cars needing a rebuild every season with normal oils, or a rebuild every 3-4 seasons with an ester based oil. Cars losing all their oil, but not suffering any real damage as there is still a layer of oil in place with an ester oil. Engines running a few degrees...

What oil for a track day

That's fine, they can tell you that (odd that people at Castrol tell you that and then they use it themselves), but we find that ester oils can make a big difference.
  6. O

What oil for a track day

It depends on what oil you use. Some people think it's best to use a budget oil and change it every track session, but to me, that's not a good plan as it won't protect as well and costs more in the long run than using a quality oil and changing it every few track days. The top end ester oils...

What oil for a track day

I thought the reason for the short filters was to compensate for lower oil pressure due to increased oil temps, I had no idea people associated higher oil pressure with more power. Higher oil pressure often means lower performance due to an overly thick oil being used. As for what filter...

Best Oil and Filter for EP3's

Hi A 5w-30 is not wrong, it's just not always the best option. As VTEC engines can burn a fair bit of oil when they are driven hard, a 5w-40 slows the consumption a bit. You don't really have such a thing as overkill with oil, the better the oil is, the more protection your car gets. Race quality oils in a 1.0L runabout driven by a granny will give more protection than the standard stuff the manufacturer recommends. If you want the best for your Integra, go for...

As far as manufacturer fluids go, the Honda MTF is pretty good, but it's not as good as a top quality aftermarket oil, like the Amsoil MTF or Redline MTL. I know the GM one over here is nothing special at all. The Honda one is made from a modified mineral oil, meaning that it's better than a...

Amsoil are another good brand that you should be able to get hold of, their MTF is very popular for Honda gearboxes, but I'd probably go for Redline as their oils are ester based, making them a step above the Amsoil in quality terms. OEM Honda filters are fine, the most popular we have are the...

The 5w-20 is aimed at the newer Hondas. In yours, it's likely to burn off the 5w-20 at a very high rate (more than a litre per 1000 miles), especially if you like to ue VTEC. The 5w-40 is a much more sensible option for your car and the Redline one is a very good oil. The MTL is ideal. Cheers Tim

Hi Not sure what oils you can get your hands on, but a good 5w-40 in the engine and a 70w-80/75w-80 for the gearbox is ideal. Cheers Tim

Hi The Pro S 5w-40 should burn off slower than the other grades you mentioned, but the more you use VTEC, the more oil it will burn (usually). It takes just under 5L. Cheers Tim

Cheaper alternative to Fuchs Titan Pro S 5w/40 fully synth to save some cash?

That one is a very good oil and really good value for money. Selling lots of it as a cheaper alternative to the Pro S.

I'd go for the Pro S as it's ester based and the Amsoil is a PAO synthetic, so a step below the Pro S. Changing to the 5w-40 should not affect the performance, but should affect the oil consumption. Cheers Tim
