2008 FN2 not going over 5000RPMs when in neutral

Hello my fellow Type-R enthusiasts!
I wonder if someone could shed a light on a problem my 2008 Civic Type-R (FN2) developed today. If you leave the car in neutral, and rev the engine, it won't go past the 4800/5000 RPMs. It sounds like the rev-limiter is preventing the engine from going over the 5k RPMs, and that baffles me.
If the car is in gear, than the engine will rev all the way up to the redline, and the V-Tec will engage normally!
The car has less than 10.000 miles (9982 to be more precise), full service history and I always check the oil level. I wonder what could the problem be (maybe an error code or something).
To add insult to injury, the warranty expires next week, and I won't have time to take the car to a dealership to have the problem (whatever it is) fixed under warranty!
So, does any of you guys have any ideas about what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance you guys!

Nothing wrong with that, it is what is it meant to do!

Why do you need to rev it high in neutral?

It won't rev in neutral, completely normal and the ECU is set that way.

It won't ever have been able to do it, and there is nothing wrong with it.

It's to stop you hitting VTEC without any load on the engine.

Put in 1st, put clutch down, rev until it wont rev anymore, release clutch, launch control.

I will not accept responsibility for any clutches destroyed.

Lovely guys, thanks for the info! It's not that I "need to" rev the engine in neutral, I just thought there was something wrong with the engine or the ECU.
Anyway, "problem solved", no need to call the AA!
Thanks once again!
