215/45/17 on ep3

i have 215 / 45

They fill the arches better and make the ride a tad more comfortable

215/45 is a better size than the 215/40 for the ctr imo...I much prefer them. The 215/40's have alot less give and as such break away in quite a "snappy" fashion. It's much easier to control the car should you lose traction with a larger sidewall. It doesn't necessarily translate into a softer sidewall either, if you think the thinner a tyre is the better it will be, you'd be wrong. :)

I don't think they look rubbish either, not much different in reality.

There's only 4mm in sidewall height difference between 215/45 and oem tyres.

Not really noticeable, i use 215/45 on track and they are spot on.:D

Just worth considering the speedo.

As you know standard tyre size is 205/45/17, and on 215/45/17 you would be doing 71 mph where you would have been doing 70 on the narrower tyres on the same speedo reading.

We all know the speedos are not 100% accurate but just something to consider.

Yeah, they are roughly 1mph out from 60-70mph. Taking into account the inaccuracy of speedo's anyway it's a non-issue really.

Many people now run 215's without any noticable difference in performance, and they can be much cheaper compared to the original 205's.

How does that work out? as you are are not changing the overall diameter of the wheel and tire you are only changing the width of the tire?

The profile of a tyre is the percentage of the width. i.e. 45 profile is 45% of the 205mm width. Go wider but keep the profile the same, you change the profile and therefore radius by 45% of the change in width.

205/45 = 92.25 sidewall height
215/40 = 86
215/45 = 96.75

215/45 is a closer match in sidewall height to the standard size.

 daaaayyyyuuuummmm. everyday is a school day, i always thought the profile was how many mm the sidewall was :-$ lmao
