Re: My first Honda! - Pics coming tomorrow! :) 22/02/2013

I went for use Stoptech lines to be honest bud. Never heard a bad thing said about them. Had them on nearly three years now. No issues at all.

Ive got a set of HKS lines, which are basically just HEL lines with thier name on it. Had them on for about 4 months and so far so good. I did want some do-luck but struggled to find any available

As promised.. photos!

Gave her a proper clean today, full polish etc, really happy with the outcome! Went for a drive to our local mountain (hill) to get some shots but crap weather and it was busy so i'd look a bell standing there taking photos of my car aha.
Used the camera on my phone unfortunately, my compact is probably worse haha. Thinking of a DSLR soon though.. And so.. here she is!

It wasn't all smiles though... I'd phoned up TDI north to see if they can diagnose my whining box :(. Going tomorrow, fingers crossed it's paranoia. It is under warranty but I'm not convinced the garage would want to pay out to replace the gearbox. :(

Lovely looking car mate looks showroom standard, the lads at TDI are brilliant and wont fill you with a load of rubbish like some back street garages, if there is a problem best get it nipped in the bud now whilst still under warranty :)

Thanks mate. I keep hoping its nothing, but it's starting to get annoying, the whining predominantly :( it sounds like a supercharger but in a bad way! And then I have a noise that sounds similar to that of a marble in a plastic box, when I press the clutch in, it goes away :(. The lads @ TDI reckon the whine is also to do with the gearbox, but I'll find out tomorrow. I've heard good things about them, thought it was best if they have a look rather than going straight back to the dealer. If it does need a new box, I hope the dealer plays ball and gets it fixed cause I don't want to loose the car. In the past my Dad has had to have a car replaced because the garage didn't think it made sense fixing the box lol :/.

Presently though it's a joy to drive, bar the niggles, makes me grin day in day out :D wanna get it sorted so I can start modding :>

Oh yeah, for evo_works my shopping list is as follows.. for now;

4 new tyres, for some reason it currently has ditch finders on.
FRSU
Rear Tints
AEM CAI (although I may rethink this..)
Uprated Brake pads/lines/fluid
MIGHT paint the calipers
Some Type-R-owners stickers and a JDM one, or two :p
.. and that's it for now!

My first Honda! - First pics up!

If the noise goes when you put the clutch in then it's your clutch release bearing.

New clutch time :)

Yeah they mentioned that on the phone dotty. Would the whining be related? It's pitch increases with RPM, even when stationary.

Seems a bit crap for a 50k car to need a new box, my previous Astra had been to the moon (130k) on it's original box and clutch! Oh well, will find out tomorrow for sure.

Yes it would be related, your symptoms are typical of clutch related issues. Any problems changing gear at high RPM?

50k is reasonable innings for a clutch to be fair.

My clutch release bearing sounded like a bird chirping before I got it changed.

Fair do's!

No problems changing gear, or getting into gear. TBH the sound of the marble-like problem isn't even that bad, the whining is irritating as **** though.

Aha yes it is! Nipple hill haha. I had planned to get some decent shots of the decent, but I failed. It was too busy, full of old men with hiking sticks.

It's not the best road for stopping on really, not very wide, it will be worse weekend though lol. Loggerheads might be better?

Yeah I'm going to try Loggerheads in the week!

Went to TDI North today regarding my gearbox issues. The diagnosis was.. nothing to worry about :D! Massive weight off my shoulders to be honest.

Got some photies while I was there..

There was also a Mugen FN2 that has made an appearance in Fast Car mag there as well as a Skyline!

Glad to hear the noise you thought may have been the gearbox is nothing to worry about :)

Always a good trip visiting TDI North - the FN2 is Tim's IIRC its running 500bhp+ now :D

Yeah it was in Fast Car this month, 500+ bhp daily, not bad for some eh!

It was my first time to TDI North, was fun. Got to chat with people about cars for hours without being told to shut up (GF) or seeing puzzled faces (mates) haha. He did say I didn't have enough power though! dropping hints about JRSC's.. naughty!

As it was a nice day and I was up early I took the opportunity to give my car a massive clean with all my new toys!

It went along the lines of;
Cleaned the wheels with Bilberry wheel cleaner and the EZ detail brush,
Gave the car a wash followed up with drying off with water with a mix of cloths and chamois leather so protect her paint,
After it had cooled down I clay bared it using Meguiars Quik Detailer as lube followed by another rinse and dry.
Then I used the Poorboy's white diamond glazer to give it a nice shine,
And finally waxed with Dojo Juice light fantastic wax.

pics!

This is how she started the day, admittedly not that dirty.

Not something I'll be doing again in a hurry though, kudos to those who do it for a living.

Looks good, good reflection on the panels.:smt023
