Back in an ep3 K24 Frank! I’m in love.

Also this power cut is getting more frequent. It was happening at lower revs yesterday and seems to be far more regular at higher rpm. I’m up in Edinburgh so a trip to eurospec is not really viable. Any suggestions for a mapper near me?

PerformanceTek are in Glasgow. They’ve been working with TDI North.

I’m thinking I have bad/faulty/dirty injectors. Is it worth swapping them out before I take the car to a mapper? Has anyone had experience of the denso 410cc blue injectors? That’s what’s in it now and a new set are like 50 on fleabay.

I have the 410cc RDXs in mine, they should average around £210-250. Anything less unless imported direct from Acura in the US are likely chinese fakes and should be avoided.
Heard of a few engines blowing due to fake injectors so I just ponied up the full price of them from a reputable tuner as it wasn't worth the risk.

Good place to get them would be clockwise motion.

Id agree they seem far too cheap to be decent, trouble is I don’t even know if the injectors are the problem. I’m getting no fault codes on kpro just the symptom of sporadic power loss/lurching.

You can get injectors tested/cleaned - https://www.fuelinjectorclinic.co.uk/ - for example, but no doubt there are others. It'll be cheaper than buying new ones if they're still functional.

Likewise you could test the spray pattern yourself if you pull the plug and disconnect it, and pull the associated injector so you can see its spray pattern, but that's a fair bit more work and slightly risky (sprayed petrol under pressure near a hot engine).

Can't you also put something in the fuel tank that helps clean the injectors?

That seems a little bit beyond my curbside autos remit but I see what you’re saying as it may help narrow down the culprit. I suppose it could be so many other things though. I have no laptop so can’t data log on my kpro I do have the phone app but it doesn’t record and I’ve no idea why the sensor readings are telling me anyway.

I’ve run two full tanks of redex through the engine and it’s not improved it at all.

I've never seen redex work on any vehicle. The only thing that's worked for me is something called seafoam, it's been brilliant on three different bikes I've had suffering from gummed up carbs. Left to sit a number of times when running it through the system completely sorted them. It's supposed to also work on injectors though never tried it, and I doubt it'll sort bits of foreign body crap in there as opposed to fuel residue but if I had to rely on an in-the-tank solution it's the only stuff I'd bother with.

Proper injector cleaning not only tests the pattern but also the flow rate, and proper cleaning can only be achived by cycling the injector so just plonking them in an ultrasonic cleaner doesn't work too well. You do get a comprehensive service for the money from a reputable injector servicing company.

booked in with sos Motorsport in Falkirk next week. I was going to change injectors but risky spend if that’s not the fault. I have a receipt from eurospec for a map tweak and injector pins? Could this mean it’s had injector trouble before?

Worth getting a multimeter out and seeing if you have any breaks in the injector loom.

They usually come with Toyota pigtails and clips that need soldering to the OEM loom or clips that piggyback off the OEM loom like a converter.
If there's a bad solder then vibrations / heat might be causing a brief (dis)connection resulting in a misfire.

I actually think there’s a good chance this could be the problem, job for this morning then since I’m off!

Little update, I went to sos in Falkirk on wednesday, car went straight on the rollers to try and find this fault, 2 hours later and several pulls and a full remap and the symptom decided not to show itself once! I didn’t go in for a remap just to try and find this fault but the owner said he could see nothing wrong with it at all and as it wasn’t physically showing it was hard to give me an answer. He said it was likely fuel and to stick to Tesco 99. The car sounded brilliant and pulled a healthy 259bhp and 205ft. Drove it home happy as Larry and it felt smoother and bit more responsive, took it out the next day, still going great, now for the last two days it’s been jumping and kangarooing again! It’s doing my head in. Not sure where to go from here.

His is one of the pulls with a little lick of flame. I couldn’t believe it didn’t show the symptom all morning.

Maybe the map before wasn't great?

The story with the map is that I have a receipt from eurospec2000 from 2015 showing a full remap then anther receipt from 2017 stating a new mani was fitted with a map teak again from eurospec. The tuner I had it at on Wednesday reckons the map tweak might not have actually happened as he managed to get a further 10bhp from it by remapping. No fault codes at all and the symptom didn’t display itself all morning whilst on the rollers.
