bad vibration in the rain HELP PLEASE

Messages

i was driving home at night in torrential rain and taking it easy at 60 and my car hit a small patch of water and the floor started to vibrate i could only feel it through the footwell nothing through the steering wheel and hear a low bassy sound this is it first ive have felt this and my gf in the passenger seat felt less vibration than i did the only thing i can compare it to is a extremely unbalanced wheel also it has something to do with the engine as i pulled over as soon as i felt it and it still did it on tickover but a little less violent it also got worse the higher the revs i turned the car off then on again and it stopped so i carried on home it only happened once more on the way home again stopping car off-on go i have also looked through the heat shield thread but think the sound is too bassy to be a rattling shield any help is extremely appreciated as going to knockhill in two weeks and its a 100 mile drive!!

Common thing on EP3's if I remember right, especially if you have an aftermarket B pipe. I believe it's quite normal.

Yeah have a mongoose cat back is there anything wrong that can be fixed or a way to stop it doing it? Thanks for the reply :)

I'm not sure of any more details, but it's been covered before so if you have a search on here and on Google you should see some previous posts on the subject.

It's water getting between the bigger bore b-pipe and the car body. There is less room for it to escape as it kettles off the hot b-pipe and rattles the pipe around.

Stiffer exhaust hangers may help but as Chris said, it's just one of those things of having an aftermarket exhaust.

Terrified the crap out of me when it first did it on my old EP3's Spoon b-pipe. It sounds like the car is going to an early grave!

Thanks for the reply loxy yeah scared the s**t out of me though the engine was away to give up

For solving the problem I was looking into heat wrapping the exhaust would I be okay to do this as I've heard it helps and would there be any long term repercussions and again thanks for the reply

As above, stiffer exhaust hangers are a must, I also had a brown pants moment after fitting a 2.5" mid pipe. I used the hangers I found in my buddy's garage, they could well have come from a range rover, or an old skool escort, possibly a xj6..... The point being they were stiffer than the oem rubbers. Stiffer is gooder.

I've just bought some Powerflex Universal Exhaust Mounts (EXH011) for my FN2's exhaust. Not fitted them yet, but they look up to the job.

I'm so glad someone else has this problem / asked the question. Mines been doing it since I had my exhaust fitted and I took the car back to them thinking something was knocking from the exhaust (drove home in the rain) and was told they couldn't find anything wrong so I've put up with it for over a year now and it's been driving me mental! Good to know I'm not the only one.

Someone recently mentioned heat wrapping the b-pipe. I'm pretty sure that would cure it too. :smt023
