bonnet release or pull handle

Thought i would post this solution for the broken handle that a lot of hondas seem to fall victim to,i did a search and didnt find this but it may be on the forum already. At the time i had to get this from america but they are now available from the uk.The solution is a pull made from aluminium which is held onto the end of the cable using 2 screws. As mine was from america i had to release the cable from the wing to be able to tighten the screws but there is now one available that has the screws on the left so it might be possible without doing this.Fix looks basically oem, some people on the facebook ep3 owners think that a keyring with type r looks better but i prefer the factory look. Here are some links to the parts and a video how to fit, one is for right hand drive market with the scews on the left the other has the car emblem laser engraved rather than a sticker.

I had this on a couple of different 05/06 plate Civics, each time I replaced the complete assembly with the honda part and it never failed again. I had wondered what people did to them, or whether it was just the originals that went brittle and broke off as once changed they lasted years without issue.

We just use mole-grips that now live in the door card

This year i gave my EP3 a once over a couple of days before the MOT and all seemed well. Took it to my usual local garage to get it MOT'd and the tester comes into the waiting area asking me how do you open the bonnet? Just use the bonnet pull on the right hand side i said not knowing it had broken.

He said to me that it happens to loads of Honda's and he usually has to look for a pair of pliers in the doorcard. He thought it happens if you slam the bonnet shut which could be correct as mine must have pung off at a fair rate to end up under the drivers seat.

I just bought an aftermarket one for around £15 and it has been ok so far.
