Brown dust by alternator

Noticed today on my ep3 type r by the alternator and on the belt and rollers there is like brown dust on them all any idea what it could be

It could be that you've only just noticed it and it was the remains of an attempt to free up a ceased bearing that has since been replaced?

The pulleys are all ball bearing, so not something that would normally throw out brown dust unless rusted and then freed.
