Buzzing Sound Between 2-2.5k RPM

Hi guys, I own a 2004 EP3 Type-R, I've had it for a little over a year and it has developed this rather disconcerning buzzing sound from the engine when I rev between 2k and 2.5k approx. through every gear.

Now my neighbour, self-elected car expert, said since my car has done 65k that the timing/cambelt probably needs replacing. But I've just paid over £300 for an MOT and service so could really do with spending another £150-200 on this, especially if he is wrong (I'm sure the garage will agree with him for £200).

Has anyone else had/heard of similar issues and the cause?

It'll probly be the heatshield, very common problem
There's a fair few threads on it with more info, if you search for heatshield you should find 'em

The engine is chain driven btw, so no belt to be replaced.
