Could do with some advice please ?? feel like selling :(

Evening all, getting a bit down about my car at the moment, I have previously posted on here about my annoying problem with my pro sport 35mm lowering springs and the fact that since I lowered my car with them I have had a very annoying clunking noise when I hit a bit of bumpy road, turns out in the end that there was no sleeves or top and bottom hats (I think that's what there called)? and what's happening is the spring is coming out of its cup/housing and moving about which as we all know it shouldn't do, I have also been told that its a possibility that I have been giving the wrong springs and this could be part of the problem, I believe the only way to correct this problem is buy a new set of spring (eibach sportline) is what I fancy 45mm/30mm I believe?they are £170, anyway my question is even if I buy these new springs surely I still need the sleeves (which I don't even have at the minute) and the hats? is this the reason why there are moving about because they haven't got these parts? also what would happen if I didn't have these parts fitted with new springs? I honestly don't even know were to get them from as I cant seem to find anything. Any help would be great, Thanks for your time. Craig :)

Have a look at this website at front/rear shock absorbers for the parts that you need. They are genuine Honda so a little pricey.

Failing that try the traders on here Hendy etc should be able to get the parts you need.
I wouldn't consider selling just because of this, you could always go back standard for the time being and if you wanted to sort the suspension out again, in time, you could but then you would have a better knowledge.

Thanks for that mate its a great help, question though even if I did go back to standard (which is the last thing I want) I would still be missing parts wouldn't I? sleeves and caps are a must aint they?

Dim problem :). You probably will be missing the parts I didn't see the car before/after you had it done so wouldn't be able to comment if they were in place or not.

What garage fitted them?
Are they specialists like TDI North etc?
Did the garage that fitted the springs not re fit the parts that are now missing? Or even notice and speak to you or advise you if they were missing?
You would need to buy new ones as I would think they are a must.

Only today I helped my dad fit springs to his van as one had snapped. The springs shouldn't move around the hats that the spring sits in should be in place I would imagine, even when using lowering springs, these would be needed . Find the parts you need on the link above, look under shock absorbers then have a look at the diagram and find the part/s you would need or go to your local motor factor place and tell them what's going on and they should be able to get the part/s. I would imagine it would be fine after you fit those, if it still persists then maybe the springs are the wrong ones but also check drop links etc.

If I were you I would go back to the garage that fitted them and ask some questions, such as, the ones above, then fit the hats etc. If it's still the same then double check all the gubbings, drop links, bushes, top mounts etc then failing that look at the springs themselves.

Thanks mate your a star man! :D

They were installed at a local garage who I have been using for 5 years, its nothing like tdi as we have nothing like that local here in the north east :( also I no longer speak with the dude who fitted them so going back and asking him is out of the question lol, as for the parts I believe theres no sleves (which is like a tube if im correct?) and also the part what sits in the bottom and top (are they the same part? hat/cap no sure if im honest mate lol. I fancy the eibach sportline spings I don't suppose they offer these parts to go with it would they?

Get it back to standard mate and sort youre problems out, then move on from there.

I only use the local Honda garage and they are spot on with me, wouldnt go anywhere else tbh, though there are no specialists near me anyway.

It's difficult to tell what's been done to your car without seeing it really. I thought that you would only need lowering springs, front camber bolts, rear adjustable arms and the geomatery done. Did you buy separate sleeves or something? Or did you try those rubbish coilover sleeve things off ebay?

You would definately need top/bottom hats I think these are bits of rubber that the spring sits on (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong guys my knowledge on suspension stuff isn't perfect lol). Unsure about the sleeves really.

All I done mate was lower it with 35mm Pro Sport springs, I didn't keep the oem springs though (big mistake) and when he changed the springs it turns out he didn't put the sleeves onto the new springs, as for the hats I don't believe there's any on, which is a big possibility of why it is clunking? would I be able to buy the hats at a local motor store or is it going to have to be Honda?? also do I really need the front camber bolts and arms? the reason im asking is because im not going to be using it on track or anything like that.

I would imagine you could get the hats from your local parts place ask them and find out, if not then go Honda the traders sections on here contact Hendy etc they are always happy to help.

When lowering it is best to get front camber bolts and rear arms and get the geomatery (frsu) done even if you don't plan on tracking it as the settings will alter, you could get uneven tyre wear or other issues if you don't do this. Once that is done the difference is unbelievable and should be reliable. Bolts are around £25, arms around £150 just getting a place to fit and set up a frsu then.

ohh I see thanks for that mate, bit pricey though lol, as for the hats im guessing that they are the same size and will fit aftermarket lowering springs?

Yeah I was looking into this before and still want to do it but funds aren't allowing at the moment, I was advised to do it this way from other members on here and from the company who I would take it to (They specialise in Evo's). They quoted around £500 at the time to do the lot that's supplying the parts too. Just get the hats that would be used with the standard suspension they should be fine to use the springs should fit them.

Search Google for local specialist garages near you, these were only about 6 miles from me and I didn't know they existed lol.

But tbh there isn't a cheap way to tune these cars a lot try doing it on the cheap and end up paying twice. Hope it all goes well though.

Yeah same here mate I know fine well I couldn't pull that amount out at the minute plus the price to get it done lol, so are you actually lowered at the minute or you waiting to do it all at once? yeah buy cheap buy twice I agree with it now after reading it so many times on here lol, you've been great mate thanks again for the help :D

I'm still standard at the moment, I'll wait and get it done in one hit. Or I usually buy bit by bit then pay to get them fitted in one go. That's all I've done so far is the Hondata airbox mod with CAF from the front grill and an ITG air filter and a custom catback. But because I'm trying to save for other things (first house) the mods have been put off, I've just concentrated on keeping it clean, tidy and make sure it's running sweet with regular servicing etc.

Dim problem though :). Let us know how you get on.

The ABP Eibach (Sportline) springs are -30mm both front & rear.
Anything more than that would be silly on an EP3 because it's likely you will already be catching the exhaust on speed bumps at that height.

I went for the Eibach Pro kit on mine -15mm Rear/-20mm Front which have been absolutely fine, no issues whatsoever and they also offer slightly better road comfort than the OEM springs. Fitted back in May last year by the lads at ABP Motorsport in Shavington

Sits at a sensible height although admittedly it would be nicer if the rear was a tad lower

Hope you get the problem sorted fella

Well lads after 11 months of the annoying clunk and rough ride the problem has gone!! turns out it was just the actual springs they must of been sh*t, they were all scraped on each coil were they have been banging against each other, anyway I purchased some eibach sortline springs 45mm front/30mm rear which also came with rubbers on which were a big help, anyway new springs fitted and boom problem sorted no more noise and now the ride feels fantastic! :D feels better than oem and holds to the road great! im now 1 happy chappy :p

lol I agree mate, but its sickening how summit so annoying can get you so down though, 11 months and it turns out to be a horrible set of springs, I believe there the wrong springs for the car as they shouldn't of been moving about, the eibach are something else though I must admit now I can see why everyone on here uses them :p

Yeah I hate strange noises, it would have done my head in lol. But least it's sorted, suppose you got to hang on tight now lol.
